Nearly every culture has their own creation and destruction story. One of the most well known creation and destruction stories is the one that originated from western Asia, the story of Genesis or the creation story of God. The reason being is the story of Genesis was shared across the world with the spread of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. As for one of the least known stories is the Chinese Nu Kwa: creator and Savior. Just like the biblical story of creation and destruction, the story of Nu Kwa has different versions. However unlike God, Nu Kwa had a physical form. Nu Kwa was originally known as both empress and a female spirit until the first century when she was identified as a complete female. Although both stories seem to be different, they share a lot in common.

God said to Adam and Eve, “be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” As for Nu Kwa and her older brother, they prayed for the heavens above for an answer. They prayed, “Oh, heaven, if thou wouldst send us two forth as man and wife, then make all the misty vapor gather. If not, then make all the misty vapor disperse.” Then in response to their prayer the misty vapor immediately gathered.
Not only do the two creation stories explain the beginning but they also share a lesson. They both share the lesson of shame and guilt. In the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were told by God not to eat the fruit off a certain tree. However, Eve was fooled by a serpent and picked the ripe fruit to share between Adam and herself. After being confronted by God, both felt guilty of a sin.
