Cultural experience can influence a person’s perspective, view and change in the world. In the book, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, it is shown and proven that culture affects a person’s society, decisions, and human perspective. Adeline’s life is shaped around the Chinese culture she lives by that is enforced by her stepmother while being restricted of freedom and influenced by outside cultures, such as her classmates.

Culture can be an influence by making the decisions you make, or, in Adeline’s case, made for you. Adeline is not able to have the freedom that normal people have because of the culture she lives by. The freedom that her classmates have is different from Adeline, making her the odd one out. Thus, her classmates were silenced by the realization of Adeline’s family culture, after witnessing the truth. Importantly, she is not allowed to attend college because her culture forbids her to.
