Childhood obesity is a huge problem in the world today and effects many children. Everyone agrees that this is a problem that needs to be taken seriously and handle in the proper way. What people cannot agree on is what the “proper way” entails. Some people feel that children should be left in their homes and families should be given resources to help their children. Others feel that child protective services (CPS) should step in and take the child away from the family that allowed them to become obese. Those who advocate having children left in their homes have many valid arguments. First off, having a child taken from their home can cause more psychological and physical harm than they are already undergoing. If a parent has let their child get to the point of obesity or extreme obesity and show no signs of changing their child’s life style then the child should be taken out of that environment so to ensure that that the behavior can be stopped and corrected before it stays with them for their entire lives. There is evidence that suggests that being obese during childhood, as early as two years old can put children at a greater rick for adult obesity, which comes with its own set of health problems such as heart disease or type two diabetes (Childhood Obesity Facts).
