Human trafficking is a widespread issue worldwide. Child sex trafficking is a subcategory in this. A common misperception however is that it is not a domestic problem within the borders of the United States, and that it is the responsibility of other countries to tackle this issue. This is not true; according to UNICEF, the United States serves both as a source and transit location for victims of the trade, and all 50 states have reported instances of child trafficking and the exploitation of minors. Thus, there is indeed a possibility to affect the global issue by implementing stricter policies and changing practices when it comes to child sex labor.
