Obesity in children has begun to be a major problem. What is obesity? Obesity is the condition of being grossly fat or overweight. What is being overweight? When one person is overweight they are above a weight considered normal or desirable. Obesity in any human being can lead to many health problems including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea. Child obesity increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. though children don’t really consider it now, if child obesity continues and doesn’t end, 80% of children and teens will be overweight and obese as adults. As for gender, women are more likely to be obese or overweight than men. Worldwide, at least 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being overweight or obese, and an estimated 35.8 million (2.3%) of global DALYs (Disability Adjusted Life Years) are caused by overweight or obesity. Obesity can be caused by many factors including genetics, unhealthy eating, and inactivity. Child obesity can be managed by changing the way we live. We can make adjustments to our diets, the amount of time children sit in front of a screen, or play video …show more content…

Studies have proven that french fries are the most common vegetable that children eat making up 25% of their vegetable intake. Not eating your vegetables can lead to weight gain but juice and unnatural sugars can too. Juice, which lacks the nutrients kids need, makes up 40% of childrens daily fruit intake. Fruit and vegetables are both very healthy and nutritious for children but only when eaten in proper portions. Kids are eating unhealthy in the home and out of the home. Schools don't provide very healthy lunches that have enough nutrients for childrens bodies. Healthy lunches in schools will cost each school 4 million dollars. Another reason children are becoming more obese is because of the amount of fast food they eat. 1 in 4 americans eat at a fast food restaurant
