“The worst part about being abused is the betrayal, the one who should have protected you was the one who harmed you.” Child abuse is a social issue that has been around for centuries. One of the most common forms is physical abuse, which is when an adult harms a child. Present day child abuse and child abuse in the Victorian Era are alike in multiple ways but different in others. In the 1800’s child abuse was when an adult physically harmed a child and was not persecuted. Today there are multiple laws against child abuse and more people working to prevent this social issue .

Today there are more people trying to prevent child abuse than people in the 1800’s. Things developed and now there are more ways to abuse a child than there was in the Victorian era. Today there are laws against child abuse and people who made organizations to help the innocent children from being abused. A child is abused or neglected every 75 minutes (Champions for Children, 2017). The Champions for Children organization helps inform people on child abuse and how to prevent it. A young girl named Fiona was abused by her stepfather, and says “I started escaping from the house to go to the phone box, where I would will myself to phone Childline but I always chickened out. Eventually things just got too much. I was having thoughts about killing myself and knew I had to speak to someone so I finally plucked up the courage and called.” (NSPCC, 2017). Now there are numbers children can call if they are being abused and they can get them help immediately. Kids did not have phones in the 1800s so they were not able to call for
