General Motors the owner of Chevrolet, has a long past of being one of Americans leading car manufacturers. The company was started by Louis Chevrolet and W.C. Durant in Detroit, Michigan.
At the beginning of the 20th century there were less than 8000 cars in America and even fewer were gas powered. Louis Chevrolet, a race car driver, created an automobile for $2150 that contained a six cylinder 4.9 liter engine. The first popular car he produced on the market was the Baby Grand, which was sold for $875. Accessories such as electrics were optional on Chevrolets until 1917. By 1920 Ford and Dodge were the only leading automobile producers above Chevrolet's marque. As competition started to rise checvrolet began the necessary arrangemnets for new models and styles of cars.until 1925 all the cars were virtually no different until cheverolet realeased their superior. The new automobile had disc wheels and a “Duco cellulose finish” and at the top of their market sold for only $650. In 1949 they did a complete turn around on their cars reshaping and remodeling what had been known as the typical cheverolet and produced the new sedan that sold for $1460 right off the market. Right behind it in 1950 came the option of a two speed fully automatic transmission in any new cheverolet. In 1953 cheverolet put the world in awe when they produced their new corvette sports car. Made with a V-6 motor and fiberglass body, it was the ideal car for cruising around and was made to appeal to the eyes. The Corvette was immediately a hit and soon after acquired an even larger motor, the V-8, with options of air suprension for the ideal cruising car. The corvette had sparked a love for sports cars around the country and soon after in 1960 the corvair was made with a turbo-supercharged engine. Of all the sports cars made some of the worlds most loved cars were the Corvette, Camaro, Impala, and the Chevelle.
Not long after sportscars began the introduction to full size pickup trucks, coupes, and sedans. They improved the automobiles using new model styles, headlamps, disc brakes and bigger engines for faster and much more reliable
