Chernobyl, Chernobyl is waste land in the country of Ukraine. It is the remains of the city after a nuclear plant had a meltdown. At this time on April, 26 1986 the power plant was one of the Soviet Union's Most Power producing plants. The Chernobyl area was a thriving city and at the time had a population of 14,0000 people. The power plant provided jobs to the people of Chernobly and others from surrounding cities. The city of Pripyat was a city next to the blast cite and the population of the city was 49,000 at the time. The 111,600 people from the surrounding cities all evacuated the 19 mile alienated zone 24 hours after the blast leaving 500 people dead from radiation poisoning. In 2011 there is a city in Japan called Fukushima that had a nuclear meltdown and it was tragic, but there are people living there now 4 years later. Today there is no one that lives in Chernobyl the population is 0, however Fukushima's population is 283,145 and it still has radiation. This tells us that the Chernobyl meltdown was far more disastrous than the Fukushima meltdown. Chernobyl at this time was part of the Soviet Union which means it was part of a communist state. If you live in a communist state that means that it was more keep secret from the world.
