What if I told you that someone could save the over a million lives with one little pill? Well, a chemical engineer can do this. Most people say manufacturing and engineering is a dying field, but I say just the opposite. This a field on the verge of a monumental breakthrough. The opportunities are endless, whether it be a cure for cancer to an easily biodegradable plastic. The chemical engineer is a necessity to today’s society, saving lives and improving human life one discovery at a time. From the education one needs all the way to the retirement benefits, this is the life of the chemical engineer.

Most chemical engineers have major in either chemical or civil engineering (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015). However like most fields, chemical engineers have a hidden list of prerequisite traits for each individual. For example a chemical engineers must be able to work in a team, and he or she has to be diligent and determined. Even though I plan on leaving for my college experience some colleges and universities that offer chemical engineering in the Syracuse area are The University of Syracuse and The University of Buffalo. However the top chemical engineering school is The Massachussetts Institute of Technology (U.S Grad News Company, 2015). This job takes dedication, at first it won’t be easy, however the benefits are beyond belief. My motivation to be a chemical engineer is intrinsic, I alway want to succeed, and my failures drive me to work harder and push towards success. I have always persevered, in my life if you failed you tried and tried again until you succeed, and that is exactly the type of mentality every chemical engineer must have. However some personal weaknesses I have that may impede my progress are my fear of injuries, I may be timid at first around the dangerous chemicals because of the chance for serious injuries, for example I could burn my own hand off, the injuries are endless, but in reality isn’t everybody afraid of that?
