Have you ever wondered who created the “Peanuts” comics, that appear in your local newspaper? At the age of twenty-five, and in seven newspapers Charles Monroe Schulz debuted “Peanuts” in 1950. Many people have never heard the name Charles Schulz, but his comics are well known. All through Charles’s childhood he enjoyed reading comics, and later in life he became a successful comic writer.
On November 22, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Charles Monroe Schulz was born. Charles had no siblings and his two parents were Carl and Dena Schulz. His father Carl, worked in a barber shop. Because people always needed haircuts, Charles and his family were not affected by the Great Depression of the 1930’s. At an early age Charles showed an interest in comics. He read comics in the newspapers with his dad, and his Uncle even nicknamed him Sparky after Spark Plug (a race horse), that was a character in the comic “Barney Google”.

Some people say that Schulz based Charlie Brown on himself, but Charles based his characters on events/people that happened in his life. Shortly after “Peanuts” was published, Charles married Joyce Halverson in 1951. More events entered the strip as more events happened in his life. His children Meredith, Charles Jr., Monte, Craig, Amy, and Jill had a toy piano and Charles featured in his comic. In 1955 Charles won the Reuben Award which is given to the best cartoonist of the year. Charles’s comic was in more than four thousand newspapers and more and more people were reading “Peanuts” and even children would read the comic, though Charles geared it more towards adults like most comics
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. To Theodor Robert Geisel and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. His father was a successful brewmaster. All of his grandparents were German immigrants. His father managed the family brewery and later was a supervisor of Springfield’s public park system. The family brewery was closed because of the Prohibition his father had to get a different job he got the park system job from the mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts John A. Denison.
Around the time where World War II came around, he felt the need to help. Since he was of a too old of age for recruiting, he illustrated training movies for soldiers. This is where he was introduced to the art of animation and where he created a trainee named Private Snafu (All About Dr. Seuss).
Charlie Sheen is a well-known actor, although the person he is today is no longer Carlos Irwin Estevez. Charlie sheen, born on September 3, 1965, is the son of Martin Sheen. Charlie almost died at birth and was named after his doctor for this, thus his middle name was Irwin. His father, also an actor, was entering the stage of Broadway around the time Charlie was born. Charlie’s mother is Janet Sheen and the two of them had three other children. These included Ramon Estevez, Renee Estevez, and Emilio Estevez. All of them turned out to be actors, following in the footsteps of their father.
In 1911, Rockwell illustrated his first book, “Tell Me Why Stories”. Two Years later he contributed to “Boys Life”, He soon became art director of the magazine. Commissions for other children’s magazines, among them “St. Nicholas”, “Youths Companion” and “American Boys”, soon followed. In 1915, Rockwell moved to New Rochelle, New York, home to many of America’s finest Illustrators. He studied the work of older illustrators while painting crisply, painted renditions of fresh-faced kids and dogs.
Chuck Jones was born on September 21, 1912. Jones entered the animation industry in 1932 as a cel washer at Ubbe Iwerks Studio after graduating from the Chouinard Art Institute (now California Institute of Arts). He joined the Leon Schlesinger Studio, later sold to Warner Bros., as an animator in 1936. There, Jones was assigned to Tex Avery’s animation unit. In 1938, at the age of 25, he directed his first animated film “The Night Watchman.” Jones remained at Warner Bros. animation until it closed in 1962, though he had a brief stint with Disney Studios in 1955 during a break at Warner Bros.
Peanuts is a comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz, which ran from October 2, 1950, to February 13, 2000, continuing in reruns afterward. The strip is the most popular and influential in the history of comic strips, with 17,897 strips published in all, making it "arguably the longest story ever told by one human being". At its peak, Peanuts ran in over 2,600 newspapers, with a readership of 355 million in 75 countries, and was translated into 21 languages. It helped to cement the four-panel gag strip as the standard in the United States, and together with its merchandise earned Schulz more than $1 billion. Reprints of the strip are still syndicated and run in almost every U.S. newspaper.
After college, Seuss followed his passion and went to drawing cartoons for magazines and newspapers. As time progressed, his cartoons took on a political spin until he reached the point of a political cartoonist. After time went by, cartoons were no longer Seuss’s motivation. Some book companies asked him to write for them and use some new words. and in 1957, The Cat in the Hat was published. Dr.Seuss name linked to be a children’s book writer.
Frida Kahlo was born in a suburb of Mexico city, Coyoacán, on July 6, 1907 but claimed July 7, 1910 as her year of birth since 1910 was the beginning of the Mexican Revolution therefore, wanted her life to begin with the birth of modern Mexico. She was best known for her self-portraits and her work had been described as “surrealist”. Her works were also remembered for its pain and passion, and its vibrant, intense colors. Her work had been celebrated in Mexico as a symbol of national and native tradition.
Theodor Seuss Geisel made history by changing the way children read. He made it so much simpler, interesting and funny for kids of all ages to enjoy reading. Although some of his editorial cartoons and books were controversial they opened the eyes of many in this world. The attraction for Theodor Seuss Geisel’s silly characters and words continue on today. They are featured in movies, commercials, and merchandise. He will forever be remembered as Dr. Seuss. Although he never had children of his own he knew what to say and do to entertain children. Theodor Seuss Geisel’s answer to questions about him not having children was always; ““You have ‘em, and I’ll entertain ‘em.” It takes a lot of work and dedication to entertain a child, to Theodor Seuss Geisel it came naturally.
Born and raised in Springfield Massachusetts, Theodor Geisel was born on March 2nd 1904. Under the pen-name Dr. Seuss, Ted was able to accomplish his dream of becoming a writer after attending Dartmouth College and wrote for the school paper – the Jack-O-Lantern. Upon graduation, Geisel went to Oxford in which he received a PhD in English Literature and was inspired to become an English teacher and writer. Some of Dr. Seuss’s works include Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, and The Cat in the Hat. Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Seuss earned three Academy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, as well as numerous degrees and other awards. Dr. Seuss was not only a highly acclaimed children’s book writer as he is popularly known to be, but also, Ted Geisel is known for his work during the WWII era. He created hundreds of political cartoons in which he gave a voice to his views on topics such as war bonds and the war itself. Ted Geisel is an author who successfully revolutionized the way children read books through the creation of new “seussical” words, interesting rhyme scheme, as well as stories with meanings far beyond what they seem to represent at first glance. Geisel was able to enlist the help of the majority of the United States in WWII through the publication of cartoons and movies.
At the age of 14, Charles was very inspired by Jackson Pollock and his art. His work and style had a huge impact on a young Charles. That gave him much determination to pursue his life as an artist. He was enrolled at the University of Washington, which soon graduated in 1962. After that, he instantly started to migrate east to Yale for him to get a Master of Fine Arts from University’s Art and Architecture school. He soon figured out his passion for Yale wasn’t that deep, which turned his focus on photo-realism. He made large-format polaroids of models and would recreate them on big canvases. His method was described as “knitting”. His early work some people would clarify as bold, intimate and up-front, replicating those particular details of the selected faces he did. When people hear the name “Dr. Seuss,” images of Loraxs and cats in hats spring to mind, but not many people know the story of his rise to fame. Theodor Seuss Geisel was a loving husband, a phenomenal story teller, and somehow had the ability to get kids to read and comprehend the words they are given. He did all of this while making whimsical characters, and giving his opinion about what was happening during World War II. Dr.Seuss is a brilliant mastermind because he didn’t give up on his calling of children's books, he made kids love to read, and all of his hard work made him very accomplished by the time of his death.

The animated life of Theodor Geisel is evident in his literary masterpieces. He was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Theodor and Henrietta Geisel (Ford 14). Geisel grew up speaking German and English, and his fascination with quirky words began at an early age due to his family. For example, his sister, Margaretha, called herself Marnie Ding Ding Guy, and his first creation was the Wynnmph with ears three yards long (Kaplan). During his childhood, Geisel read widely and often - developing his voracious reading habit at an early age. By the time he was six years old, Ted was already reading Charles Dickens and Robert Louis Stevenson (Kaplan). However, college education never interested him. Labeled “Least Likely To Succeed” by his fellow classmates at Dartmouth University, Theodor often got in trouble for partying and was forced to resign from the school humor magazine. This gave birth to numerous pseudonyms of Geisel, such as L. Burbank, Thomas Mott Osbourne, Ted Seuss, Seuss, Dr. Seuss, and Theo LeSieg (Hurst). In his adult life, Theodor created various political cartoons for Judge, a humor magazine, and PM, a noted political magazine. The illustrations in these early cartoons foreshadow the quirky illustrations found in his children’s books (Kaplan).
