Charles M. Manson
In this world there are cults everywhere. Whether they're in the US,
China, or maybe next-door there is always one common factor, control. Charles
Manson was a cult leader in southern California during the sixties. Like all
cult leaders Manson had his own small band of followers. His influence was so
great that his followers were willing to kill for him at his smallest whim.
Charles Manson was very paranoid and was under the influnce that there
was to be an upcoming race war. He called this race war “Helter Skelter”.

Charles M. Manson was born in Cincinnati on November 11, 1934. His
mother Kathleen Maddox, a teenage prostitute, his father was a man remembered as
“Colonel Scott.” In order to give her bastard son a name she married William
Manson. He quickly abandoned the both of them. In 1939 Kathleen Maddox was
arrested for robbery and Charles was sent to live with his aunt and grandmother.
Charles remembered his aunt as a harsh disciplinarian and favored is uncle
because he gave him money for the movies and took him on frequent fishing trips.
Only when his uncle became ill did his unfit mother come and reclaim her
unwanted son and moved to Indianapolis.
When Mrs. Manson reclaimed her son she promised that she would take care
of him and provide for his every need. Unfortunately, all these promises were
soon shattered by liquor and men. She frequently neglected Charles by telling
him she would be back in an hour and then not show up for the rest of the night.
Sometimes when her guilt took her over she would give him fifty cents and
another promise; and at other times she just abused him.
When Mrs. Manson got fed up with taking care of Charles she arranged to
have Charles put in a foster home, but arrangements fell through. As a last
resort she sent Charles to Gibault School in Terre Haute. Mrs. Manson couldn't
keep up the payments and once again Charles was sent back to his mother's abuse.
At only fourteen Manson rented himself a room and supported himself with odd
jobs and petty theft. His mother turned him into the juvenile authorities.
Once there Manson met Rev. George Powers who had him sent to Boys Town near
Omaha, Nebraska. Charles spent a total of three days in Boys Town before
running away with his new friend Blackie Neilson. They were arrested in Peoria,
Illinois for robbing a grocery store and returned back to Indianapolis. Charles
was then sent to the Indiana Boys School in Plainfield where he ran away another

Charles’s mother robbed him of a normal childhood with a loving family. Reports on Manson stated that he was “suffering from a ‘marked degree of rejection, instability, and psychic trauma’” (“Charles Manson Biography”). Charles later married a 17 year old woman who left him for another man due to his return to prison (“Charles Manson Biography”). Once again, Charles was abandoned by someone he loved. After his time in jail, Manson obsessed over cult-quasi-religious groups and he took on the role of a cult leader because he believed the world to be “doomed” (“Charles Manson Biography”). Charles then formed his cult from a group of unstable people. He persuaded his group to believe that he was of a higher power; therefore, they followed him like a god. The biography of Manson states that, “Manson himself took no part in the actual killings, but directed his murderous disciples to the address and instructed them to kill everyone (“Charles Manson Biography”). Manson had a rocky childhood and family life. Some experts say that he was a bad seed because of the fact that he did not know his father (Bugliosi 28). Kathleen Maddox was considered by some to be a teenage whore. About his mother, Manson says, "For Mom, life was filled with a never-ending list of denials…In her search for acceptance she may have fallen in love too easily and too often, but a whore at that time? No!…In later years, because of some hard knocks and tough times, she may have sold her body some…" Charlie lived with his mother until the age of 5, when she was arrested for armed robbery (FAQ's 1). She was released from prison in 1942. Manson, after living with various relatives, such as a religious aunt and a sadistic uncle who called him a sissy and made him wear girl's clothes on the first day of school ("Charles"), moved back in with his mother for five more years. At that time, she placed him at the Gibault School for Boys in Indiana. After escaping from the School, he committed several burglaries and was placed into the famous Boys Town in Nebraska (FAQ's 1). After being arrested several more times, one of which he was caught in a stolen car at a roadblock (Fillmer 2), he was married to Rosalie Willis in 1955.

The Trader, Mr. Mitchell, was selling a lot of slaves on the way down south but found it hard to sell him. He was a lot whiter then the other slaves which was a problem. This resulted to him being sent to Mr. Seed who he stayed with for a year. He also had a hard time selling him.

After his release from the reform school, he got into trouble again with the law and was returned to ASISB. Once released for the second time, Miranda relocated to Los Angeles where a few months later he was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and sexual offenses even though he was not convicted of these crimes. He was eventually extradited back to Arizona a couple of years later. Drifting here and there through the South for several months, he ended up spending time in jail in Texas for living on the streets without any money.
No black school was available locally so he was forced to move. He said "Good-bye" to his adopted parents, Susan and Moses, and headed to Newton County in southwest Missouri. Here is where the path of his education began. He studied in a one-room schoolhouse and worked on a farm to pay for it. He ended up, shortly after, moving with another family to Fort Scott in Kansas. In Kansas, he worked as a baker in a kitchen while he attended the High School. He paid for his schooling with the money he earned from winning bake-off contests. From there he moved all over bouncing from school to school. "College entrance was a struggle again because of racial barriers."2 At the age of thirty he gained acceptance to Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.

His parents were fed up with him and realized they had to do something to straighten him out. On June 13, 1902, his father took him to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys. This was a reformatory and an orphanage. His father signed over custody to the Brothers, who were the Missionaries that ran the school.
Michael Jackson is one of my favorite singers. He is very famous, so most of all people in the world know him, at least his name. I began to listen to his songs because I was recommended them by my friend, and I was really attracted by them. I have two reasons why I like him.
