Dann Dennett discuss one of Charles Darwin’s strange inversions of reasoning. He explain to us that we have thing backward when it comes down to certain everyday thoughts and feelings. He explain Darwin’s theory of reason by focusing on four main topics, which are sweet, sexy, funny and cute. Mr. Dennett go on to say that we thing that we are born wired with natural and instinctual preference for a certain sweet food, for a type of joke, a certain sex appeal, or/and a level of cuteness. That’s not how it how it always was. We have now evolved our minds to think that way we feel or think.
Sociocultural will have you thinking that Victoria’s Secret models or Abercrombie and Fitch model has invented what it means to be sexy. That Bettye Crocker has the correct ingredients to crate the right kind of cake. That Gerber has the cutes babies in the world. We live in a world where these concepts are always developing, changing, or influenced. Celebrities are normally the type of people who set this types of trends. They can have a big influence on what one may deem as sexy or funny, because if Beyoncé or Rihanna would not think that dress is sexy, then neither will a majority of population. Mark Twain is one of the best-known writers of all time, writing things that are most commonly known for being humorous and relaxed. In “The Lowest Animal”, Twain discusses his final outcome after completing a series of experiments he undertook at the London Zoological Gardens. His end result is Charles Darwin’s theory that man evolved from earlier ancestors, but flipped completely upside down. This theory is widely known, but Twain argues a different one. In this essay, he uses affective reasoning and facts from his experiments to back up his claim, all while using Aristotle’s appeals and logical fallacies.

Cosmetic surgery sends the message that the prejudices some people have about appearance are valid, which is very wrong.

The purpose of this academic piece is to critically discuss The Darwinist implication of the evolutionary psychological conception of human nature. Charles Darwin’s “natural selection” will be the main factor discussed as the theory of evolution was developed by him. Evolutionary psychology is the approach on human nature on the basis that human behavior is derived from biological factors and there are psychologists who claim that human behavior is not something one is born with but rather it is learned. According to Downes, S. M. (2010 fall edition) “Evolutionary psychology is one of the many biologically informed approaches to the study of human behavior”. This goes further to implicate that evolutionary psychology is virtually based on the claims of the human being a machine that can be programmed to do certain things and because it can be programmed it has systems in the body that allow such to happen for instance the nervous system which is the connection of the spinal cord and the brain and assists in voluntary and involuntary motor movements.
The video, “What Darwin Never Knew”, is a stunning time line that details the theory of evolution formed by Charles Darwin, and the recent advancements made that answers some of the questions he simply could not. Darwin 's theory explained why today there are 9,000 kinds of birds, 350,000 kinds of beetles, 28,000 kinds of fish, and at least 2 million kinds of living species and counting. Darwin figured out that all species are connected, and he also realized that species evolved and adapted, but he did not know how.
It is also true that we can change and enhance our body features through elective cosmetic surgeries. Many people choose to undergo these surgeries because they are unhappy with their appearance. I feel that these procedures are unnecessary, and that you shouldn’t undergo surgery unless you need it for your health. I believe that people go through these procedures purely because they have low self-esteem. Society tells them that there is something wrong with their body, and they feel that they need to change it to fit in. I think that this is a way to see if someone is truly happy with themselves, as we all should. No one is perfect, so no one should try to be it. It’s just a waste of time and money on their part all so they can fit in, which I think is pathetic. It is always a risk to undergo surgery, and there is no reason to put yourself in unnecessary risk. I think that it is ridiculous to put yourself through something like that. If I had a ten year old dark-skinned African American daughter who wanted blue contact lens, have her skin chemically lightened, and straighten her hair, I definitely say no.
Like or not we live in a society that judge people based on their appearance. Thus people spend millions and millions on beauty parlors and plastic surgeries to improve their physical appearance.

Korean girls who have pale skin and have a v-line face are know to be the beautiful ones in their culture. Otherwise if you don’t meet those expectations you are considered ugly. Americans are called beautiful if they have a full on makeup face and if they have “the body”. If they don’t have “the body” they tend to have plastic surgery to get the perfect body that meets the expectations. How British women meet the expectations is by just wearing makeup most of the time. Cosmetic surgery has been accepted in certain cultures, this is a way of expressing who the person is. In my opinion cosmetic surgery is a good thing for individuals to pursue. As cosmetic surgery improves mental and physical well being, cosmetic surgeries through media, as cometic surgeries are improving health related issues, and creating opportunities for people.
Beauty is a huge thing in the world today. Looks are the first thing someone notices about you and it is what they judge you on. It is just how our society is today. Unfortunately, it is what the world has come to. The biggest extreme that someone can go to to enhance their natural beauty is to have plastic surgery. People are choosing to have plastic surgery due to the influence of celebrities, selfies, bullying, how important beauty is in society and the health benefits of it as well.
