To this day Charles Carroll of Carrollton is best known for his political leadership in his hometown Maryland. Penning the First Citizen letters in 1773 was Carroll, a wealthy man who became a major role in the patriot movement. As a member of the Continental Congress, Carroll was one of the singers of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. In fact, He also helped to write Maryland’s Constitution of 1776. Once American independence was accomplished, he served in the United States Senate and the Maryland legislature.1 Being the last to live of the signers, Charles journey is full of schooling, political and religious matter, and being a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers to the United States, was not a patriot but a mere loyalist to England before the dissolution between England and the colonies occurred. Sheila L. Skemp's The Making of a Patriot explores how Benjamin Franklin tried to stay loyal to the crown while taking interest in the colonies perception and their own representation in Parliament. While Ms. Skemp alludes to Franklin's loyalty, her main illustration is how the attack by Alexander Wedderburn during the Privy Council led to Franklin's disillusionment with the British crown and the greater interest in making the Thirteen Colonies their own nation. Her analysis of Franklin's history in Parliament and what occurred on the night that the council convened proves the change behind Franklin's beliefs and what lead to his involvement in the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. Charles Cullen was born on February 22, 1960, in West Orange, New Jersey. He was the youngest of eight siblings. His father worked as a bus driver, and died at age 58 when Cullen was only seven months old. Two of his siblings also died in adulthood. His mother was a stay at home mom who raised the eight children. Charles Cullen described his life as miserable, he attempted suicide at age nine by drinking chemicals he got out of a chemistry set, he attempted suicide a total of twenty times throughout his life. On December 6, 1977, when Cullen was 17 years old his mother died in a car accident, while his sister was behind the wheel. Thomas Jefferson, an educated, well respected career man, served as governor of Virginia, secretary of state, and president of the United States. The Revolutionary era, during the 1770's, proved to be one of America's most victorious times. Despite the casualties the American colonies suffered, they proved to be stronger than their ruling land, Britain, and won the right to be a free land, becoming the United States of America. Living through this difficult turning point in history inspired Jefferson to write "The Declaration of Independence." Once again, nearly two hundred years later, America faced yet another turning point in history.
A- John Adams- A Massachusetts lawyer and politician, John Adams was the one that defended the British shooters at the Boston Massacre. He went on to join the meeting at the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774. Adams and the rest of the Congress wanted there to be an end to the Intolerable acts that were put on the Colonies by the British, and they wanted to have their own government, instead of the British governing them. This lead to the start of the Revolutionary War. John Adams was one of the delegates from Massachusetts to sign the Declaration of Independence.

In 1776, he helped Thomas Jefferson in drafting the Declaration of Independence. John Adams was born in Quincy, Massachusetts. He was the eldest of three sons. John Adams felt that he had a responsibility to live up to his family heritage because he was a direct descendent of the founding generation of Puritans who established colonial presence in America.
The Declaration has helped in many debates ranging from the banning of slavery to the acknowledgement of newly independent nations (Tsesis 3). In 1774 delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies gather in Philadelphia to meet at the First Continental Congress to decide what to do about the British laws. Most people wanted to fix the relationship with England instead of gaining their independence. The British leaders would have most likely been up to the idea of negotiating, but instead the American Revolution was started. Thomas Jefferson was not present at the first Congress. A month after the Second Continental Congress started, Jefferson took his seat as a delegate from Virginia. John Adams stated that Jefferson had “a reputation for literature, science, and a happy talent for composition” (8). Jefferson noticed that many people were not yet open to the idea of independence, they were still trying to stay with England. During this time Common Sense came out and paved the way for the Declaration of Independence. After Common Sense came out, Richard Price published a pamphlet which condemned parliamentary infringement on the colonists’ rights. This pamphlet became very popular and was in circulation in England and America. On April 12,1776 North Carolina became the first colony “to concur with the delegates of the other colonies in declaring Independency” (10). On May 15 Congress published a preamble which explained that the Americans planned to be removed from the rule of England. This was the first step to a real declaration of independence because it finally showed that America decided to gain their independence.
THOMAS JEFFERSON, author of the Declaration of Independence, was born on April 13, 1743 and grew up on the family plantation at Shadwell in Albermarle County, Virginia. His father was Peter Jefferson, who, with the aid of thirty slaves, tilled a tobacco and wheat farm of 1,900 acres and like his fathers before him, was a justice of the peace, a vestryman of his parish and a member of the colonial legislature. The first of the Virginia Jefferson's of Welsh extraction, Peter in 1738 married Jane Randolph. Of their ten children, Thomas was the third. Thomas inherited a full measure of his father's bodily strength and stature, both having been esteemed in their prime as the strongest men of their county. He also inherited his father's inclination to liberal politics, his taste for literature and his aptitude for mathematics. The Jefferson's were a musical family; the girls sang the songs of the time, and Thomas, practicing the violin assiduously from boyhood, became an excellent performer.
Charles Lyell was born on November 14,1797 in Kinnordy, Scotland. Charles was the oldest of 10 children and his father, whose name was also Charles, was a lawyer and a botanist. Charles’ father was the one who first exposed him to nature.
Long ago in the year, 1863, on a many acred farm, there lived a man by the name, Augustus McCallister. McCallister was a wealthy,scoldful and greedy man who inherited land formerly owned by his father in which flourished with many crops and income. How could a single man run such an abundance of land, you may ask? The land was ran by slaves who day by day, harvested crops with gloveless hands which were torn and battered by the thorns of the brush. Who walked on dried,rough and tilled ground with shoeless feet. Who worked in the heat of the day without an ounce of water or a shirt on their back. McCallister would whip the men till they were blue in the face, if the commands he gave at the beginning of the day were not met. He would beat the women till they no longer recognizable for simply making a dish that he did not fancy. The children were cursed at and scolded for playing instead of working. He was a very cruel man and he enjoyed every second of it.
Philip Livingston was born on January 15, 1776 and was one of the delegates of the continental congress for New York that signed the Declaration of Independence. Philip grew into a wealthy family and received a well education, and even though he wasn’t rich because he didn’t inherit his father’s wealth, he became a merchant and became interested in politics, eventually being involved with them. He would now serve along a few other delegates to the continental congress: Francis Lewis, William Floyd, and Lewis Morris.
Charles Spurgeon was a British Particular Baptist preacher. He is known as the “Prince of Preachers”. He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day. Charles remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations.
Thomas Paine is undoubtedly one of the most prolific founding fathers of the United States, albeit not in the manner most would expect from a founding father. Paine was not a drafter of the constitution, nor was he an early member of Congress or President of the United States. However, Paine did have a profound impact on society, not only in America, but also abroad. Often remembered for helping spur the American Revolution, yet not as often remembered for the other revolution in France. Two of the more famous writings from Paine are, of course, Common Sense and The Rights of Man, both of which were written during revolutionary times in separate countries. It goes without saying that when a revolution is taking place there will be many on both sides of the war; in both of these instances, Paine was the voice of the people and stood up for what was right regardless of the consequences. I posit Thomas Paine was the most influential man for revolution in America and France despite fear of backlash or imprisonment. In fact, near the end of his life Paine was not only imprisoned, but somehow evaded being beheaded as well. Thomas Paine was even more influential as a result of his extreme lack of self-interest and ability to stay true to the cause of his writings rather than wither away in fear.

Really good books make me cry even if they aren’t sad. I’m an introverted extrovert who loves to be alone but is also fascinated by people. I enjoy photography, painting, and finding beauty in everyday things, but art is not my intended major. Ultimately, I want to become a trilingual adventurer who somehow mixes biology, psychology, and photography into her future career. So what I am trying to say is that living with me might be a little tough at times but also rewarding. I may be a little selfish, but I’ll always make extra food. I cry at weird times and my personality is a little strange. Really, I’m just a confused individual who doesn’t know how to fit everything she wants to do into her life.
