Due to the demand to completely re-center his or her life and choose a new life path, emerging adulthood is described as one of the most difficult time in an individual’s life (Belsky, 2013). In order to better understand the complex milestones met during this period, I interviewed twenty-two-year-old Aly. Aly graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2015 and has recently relocated to Nashville in order to start her career with the state government. Additionally, only a month after turning 19, Aly married her husband and has currently been married for three and a half years. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching television with her husband, and going out or shopping. I met Aly through our …show more content…

For example, Aly reported getting along much better with her parents after moving out. Several research studies have shown that children experience less conflict and more adult-to-adult conversations once a child has moved out of the house; additionally, the studies also confirm Aly’s claim that she has become closer with her family since moving out (Belsky, 2013). Additionally, Aly reports being content with her career and her life in general, but she is still exploring various options. According to James Marcia’s identity statuses, Aly is currently in the moratorium category, or “is engaged in the exciting, healthy search for an adult self” (Belsky, 2013). Furthermore, Aly has completed various life tasks ahead of societal norms, such as getting married and graduating college. Due to Aly completing these life tasks ahead of her peers, she is considered to be off time her age norms, or “too late or too early in a culture’s timetable for achieving adult life tasks” (Belsky, 2013). Additionally, Aly reported experiencing difficulty when attempting to find a job in her career field after college.
