Common sense, is it really all that common? Ever encountered a person who seems very intelligent, but handles a task differently than what is expected to be the common way of doing it? Did they seem to be acting a little dumb and confused, like they were never taught how to do the task at hand? This behavior represents someone who does not use common sense or that has never been exposed to thinking outside of the box. These types of people may have been taught one way of doing things and never had the desire to venture out to find an easier way of completing a task. Just how common is common sense? Another way that a person may learn common sense is by personal experiences and the consequences that come with the action. It is proven that leaving lights on all day will create an expensive electric bill. A person, after seeing the high electric bill, will begin turning off the lights when they are not being used which will in turn reduce the electric bill. Studying the people in society reveals that more people use common sense than those that don’t. These people seem to be better decision makers, find easier way of handling tasks, and always think ahead to the final outcome of any situation. Wearing a seatbelt and not texting while driving show one way that people use common sense and consider the consequences. It is known that not wearing a seatbelt and allowing distractions while driving could possibly lead to a wreck that may cause serious injuries. For those who do not use common sense with daily tasks, the final outcome of a situation is not as important. These people are known to be bad decision makers. Smoking is a perfect example of someone who does not use common sense. These types of people know that smoking can cause serious health issues and an unsound judgement is still made to continue smoking no matter the consequences.
