Character Relationship:While reading the book Island of the Blue Dolphins written by Scott O'Dell I noticed the relationship between the protagonist,Karana,and her dog,Rontu.The story would of been very different if these two would not of became friends,for Karana would not have a friend to talk to and someone to keep her company.Karana is left all alone on the this island,for her village was taken away by the white men to a new home,and her younger brother killed by the wild dogs.She created her own home by using materials on the island she could use.She wanted to avenge her brother and kill the wild dogs,especially the leader.She started her revenge by making weapons to kill the wild dogs,with bows,arrows,and spears.When she got any chance …show more content…

The Other Side of the Bridge by Mary Lawson is a book that depicts two different people, that mainly focuses on jealousy, rivalry and the power of obsession over half a century. There are many characters in the novel and they build relationships with one another that eventually become intertwined. The relationships that are built end up having an effect on the character, and contributes something different to his understanding of himself and the decisions he makes. Ian in the novel is an example of that, where the relationships he builds with the others, helps him find who he is as a person and affects the decisions he makes. Specifically through the relationships with Pete, his father, and Jake, he gains something different from each character which proves to be vital to who he is. Without these characters, Ian would be very different, as each character contributed something to Ian’s ultimate understanding of himself.

Fathers are men who help to shape and mold children, youth, and young adults into the adults they become. Some fathers are biological, but many are men that are introduced through daily interactions and occurrences. The father figure may have a positive or negative impact on the child. This is true with the character Jim Hawkins from Treasure Island. Many characters guide his growth throughout the book with good and bad traits. He looks for a father because his own father is not a factor in his life. He dies when Jim is a young child and does not seem to have a significant effect on Jim’s life. Ben Gunn, Dr. Livesey, and John Silver provide Jim with examples and characteristics he incorporates into the person he becomes. Jim, like many others, find father figures to identify with and pattern their own lives after whether it is a blood relative or a person they choose from their surroundings.
Relationships are often difficult and messy, especially in the world Tayari Jones presents in her 2011 novel Silver Sparrow, chronicling the lives of the two daughters of bigamist father James Witherspoon. In the short story, “The Truth About Sharks” Beth, is introduced as the dynamic character. Beth from The Truth About Sharks by Joan Bauer, wakes up and is in a very lazy, tired and cranky mood. She doesn’t want to do anything her mom asks/wants her to. So, instead she went shopping for new pants. Beth goes to Michelle Gail’s and meets Hannah the sales person. She starts trying things on, Beth leaves her stuff in the changing room and walks over to the sales rack by the elevator and gets falsely accused for stealing the pants she had on. Madge P. Groton took her to her office and calls for backup and Beth is later greeted by Officer Brenneman who takes her to the police station. On their way there Beth asks for a chance to prove herself with a witness she has back at the store. Her witness Hannah who luckily remembers her and defends Beth because she was very polite to her in the morning. Beth stands up for herself and goes back to the store demanding an apology, which she later gets and a really pricey gift card given by the manager on behalf of the problem caused in his store. Loyalty can be perceived in many different ways. Loyalty may be shown by an individual as repayment, sympathy, or it may just be a part of one’s character and personality. Ultimately, loyalty is an act of faithfulness, reliability, and commitment. The opposite, disloyalty, is an act of dishonesty. In the novel: “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen, the main character, Jacob Jankowski, portrays elements of, both, loyalty and disloyalty. Jacob is deceiving and disloyal in many aspects of this novel; however, once he learns lessons of loyalty from other characters, he embraces loyalty in return – it becomes evident that Jacob’s actions were acts of repayment towards his peers.
Given her fondness for dogs (although fondness is a bit of an understatement), it makes sense that she would see dogs as an excellent example of a companion species, even more so than most given our unique relationship with dogs. In many ways, dogs and humans share a co-evolutional story. It started thousands of years back, when the first dogs began following humans around an eating their trash. The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a peculiar story about boys stranded on an island, and the plot and characters relate to many prevailing events and problems. A specific problem that is currently occurring is the mutual hatred and enmity between North Korea and South Korea. This is a current event, but the North and South’s hostility has been ongoing since 1945, when Korea was split into North and South, Communist and Capitalist. When the 38th parallel(Border between North and South Korea) was created, Kim Il-Sung ruled the North, and Syngman Rhee ruled the South. As of now, a power hungry dictator, Kim Jong-un rules the north, and an optimistic president who wants to see change was recently elected in the South, named Moon Jae-in. In Golding’s book, Ralph is a character who aimed to keep everyone alive and to stay together. Jack on the other hand, wanted to have fun and hunt, and although he also wanted to be rescued, he made no effort to help. In this sense, North Korea is a clear representation of the character Jack and his quest for power, and opposingly, South Korea is a representation of Ralph and his strive for order, democracy, and civilization.

In the United States alone, there are more than 500 dolphins and members of the dolphin family held in captivity; equally thousands have died in captivity. Today, dolphins are kept captive in amusement parks, "Swim With Dolphins" programs, casinos and sometimes even shopping malls. Many people enjoy watching them perform in shows or even interacting with them in aquatic parks, but most people lack the understanding of the trauma dolphins suffer in through being captured and transported, and the often cruel conditions in which they are kept. The process of capture and the conditions in which dolphins are kept are cruel and unnatural, and can be stopped by educating the public about the significant cost of this industry to the health and life of the dolphin species, and convincing the public to not buy tickets to the different events that captive dolphins are involved in.
