Wormwood is given the task to distract his patient who has just been converted over into Christian lifestyle. With the help from his uncle Screwtape, they begin the process of conversion. In Far From the Tree written by Robin Benway, she created a character that had a child in highschool and Her little girl was adopted and has a better life than what Grace could have offered her. Once Grace got told she had a sister named Maya she bursted into joy. Her heart was beating out of her chest when she was emailing Maya to meet up. In “The Red Convertible” by Louise Erdrich the two main characters Lyman and Henry are brothers that have an amazing relationship with one another. In the beginning of the story Erdrich writes about how Lyman and Henry bought a gorgeous red convertible; and together they went on plenty of road trips and bonded over the car. On the other hand, the two siblings in Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” don’t have that same sibling bond. The siblings in “Everyday Use”, Maggie and Dee, are complete opposites. Dee is extremely vain, snobbish, and outspoken while Maggie is coy, insecure, and timid. In The Scarlet Letter, the main characters Hester Prynne, Roger Chillingworth, and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale are tangled in a web of deceit, which is the result of a sin as deadly as the Grimm Reaper himself: adultery. Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author of The Scarlet Letter, describes the feeling of deceit using the main characters; for each of the cast the reaction to the deceit is different, thus the reader realizes the way a person reacts to a feeling differs between each character.
In nature, someone can hear the sounds of a creek flowing and birds chirping and insects buzzing; in civilization, someone can hear engines roaring, people chattering, and buildings being built. In nature, one feels happiness and contentment; in civilization, one feels guilt and misery and sorrow. These simplicities of nature are what appeals to William Cullen Bryant in the poem ‘Inscription for the Entrance to a Wood’. The poem tells the reader that nature is a happier place than civilization and that nature gives one the answers to their existence and problems of life that civilization created. Civilization is ugly and corrupt while nature is beauty and tranquility.

She goes through extreme emotions in the play such as happiness, sadness, anger, stress, and confusion. Ruth is very independent, firm, kind, witty, and loving.
Junot Diaz’s “Wildwood” is a roller coaster of emotions. The author gives us a full view of the tempestuous relationship between Lola and her mother who discovers has breast cancer. Lola, a young girl who lives in New York with her brother and mother, early on we can see that Lola’s mother is particularly abusive and channels her frustrations towards her daughter. When her mother asks Lola to examine her breast for a lump, she has a premonition her life would change.
Throughout the renowned novel Grendel, author John Gardner illustrates a captivating characterization of the monster Grendel. While the reader may initially brand Grendel as a sadistic villain, Gardner gradually reinforces the complexity of this character, to the extent where a pressing question arises and begs the reader’s attention--is Grendel truly evil? As the story progresses, it becomes evident that Grendel simply does what he knows to do, as a monster, in addition to doing what he can do, as an emotional being which often lacks favorable choices. Screwtape's main reason for telling Wormwood about humanity's experience of "troughs and peaks" (IV) is almost one of a scolding nature. While we never see Wormwood 's letters to his uncle, it can be inferred that he is inexperienced, immature, and somewhat clueless on how to be a good demon. In one of his letters to his uncle, Wormwood states that he "has great hopes that the patient's religious phase is dying away" (VIII). This statement is one of many signs of Wormwood's immaturity that we see in the Letters. Apparently, our human condition is very complex to demons, too complex for young demons like Wormwood to understand fully. The Scarlet Letter illustrates that the illumination of self-deception gapes open after one like the very jaws of hell. This is apparent through all the main characters of the novel. Although Hawthorne's work has several imperfect people as the main characters, including Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth, the worst sinner is Roger Chillingworth. Chillingworth commits the greater sin because of his failure to forgive; he has an insatiable appetite for revenge; he receives extreme pleasure in torturing Dimmesdale. Hester Prynne, however, has committed sins of almost the same magnitude.
Relationships are a vital component in one's everyday life. Moreover, in Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks by Thelma B. Thomas, Millie, the main character in the book, has faced multiple obstacles dealing with relationships. Thelma uses a unique method of combining relationships with three different appeal schemes, Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. In fact, there are three major types of connections recycled throughout the book; which include, Romantic relationships, friendships, and family relationships. Furthermore, her relationships have steered her life in different directions since she was nine years old, and without them she definitely would not be the hardworking, determined, selfless woman she is today.
