A beautiful mind explored the real life story of John Nash who was a paranoid schizophrenic. The film was a biographical drama which was released in 2001. Russell Crowe was assigned to portray Mr. Nash and Jennifer Connelly played his wife, Alicia Nash. The film began with him at a ceremony as a graduate student at Princeton University (he was awarded the Carnegie scholarship for mathematics). He met other graduates like himself, but he seemed slightly out of place. He first met his “roommate” (one of the characters he had imagined) Charles Herman while John was settling in. Making sure he is aware of the things that may set him off (trigger) causing him to relapse. The OT&OTA would also let him know the risk of not taking his medication, while reminding him of all the great things he did when he is on the medication.
The principles of recovery
John had accomplished a lot in his life while living with his illness, he also had a few relapses because he was no longer seeing the benefits of taking his medication. Even though he had a wife that loved him, she wasn’t enough to keep his illness at bay. John needed a new meaningful role (being a Father) was what truly made him grow beyond the catastrophic of his illness. (Williams, A. (1993)

Critique
I really enjoyed watching this movie because it opened up my eyes to what schizophrenia is really like. Prior to this film I assumed people with schizophrenia were violent and unpredictable. John’s calm character really gave me a new insight on this mental health disease. I have recommended friends and family do watch this movie so they can learn what I have. The director of the movie really did a good job of portraying the general life of the real John Nash. He was able to capture the full attention of the
