The cultural changes and continuities that were driven by South Asia’s political shifts from 600 b.c.e – 600 c.e. occurred because of the increase in religious ideas held by Aryans, Buddha, and The Gupta.

The Aryans were the first people to come up with Vedas, which were special texts that directed the Hindus to use the Caste System. This system was used to establish where and what class a person would be placed in. The Caste System was a major cultural change in South Asia because politically, it created individual classes in which some people where more powerful than others. This was a major adjustment, because with out class distinction, the society would fall apart. This system was used to guide and set specific rules for people: Having people stay focused on doing their job good, to move up The Caste System into a higher class. One major change that Buddhism made was rejecting the Caste System. Instead of moving up the Caste System, people would be reincarnated until they would reach the ultimate goal, Nirvana. Buddha wanted to over come death so he started teaching people ways to eliminate suffering. This led to political shifts, because over time, people would strive to reach Nirvana. It caused people to become more and more attached to the religion, thus Buddhism started to leave South Asia because there was no where else to go. One major continuity of Buddhism, was it continued to fear suffering. Even with looking forward to Nirvana, people would always be scared of failing or being miserable. People became so attached to their life’s then, it started to become hard to accept what will happen after their life. This continuously occurred because people would be afraid to fail.
