As the play progresses the characters change; quite a bit Macbeth has gotten very paranoid since becoming king. Lady Macbeth has become tormented by what she and he husband have done and yet she must protect Macbeth and keep in sane even as she is going insane. Macbeth is the kind of man that should not have this kind of power for responsibility it goes to his head and makes him think everyone is against him. He thinks someone is after him and his crown he wants no one living that could possibly take away this new life as king. He hires men to kill his best friend Banquo and Banquo’s son Fleance all because the witches prophesied that Banquo’s line will prosper and have the future kings of Scotland. Macbeth’s ambition is to remain king for as long as possible and he will kill anybody who stops this from happening. Macbeth feels as if he was given a childless rule, and that his legacy will not continue on in fears his rule will be taken away by someone outside his family. Macbeth states, “For Banquo’s issue, I have filed my mind; For them the gracious Duncan have I murder 'd, put rancors in the vessel of my peace only for them, and mine eternal jewel given to the common enemy of man. to make them kings, the seeds of Banquo kings”(Shakspeare 3.1.64-69). Macbeth had committed murder, poisoned his own mind, and destroyed his soul only to end up benefiting Banquo’s heirs. Macbeth, being the paranoid character that he is, feels threatened by this and orders both Banquo and Fleance to be killed. In Act 3, Macbeth says that, “and mine eternal jewel, given to the common enemy of man, to make them kings, the seed of Banquo kings!” (Shakspeare 3.1.67-9). When Macbeth became suspicious about Banquo knowing that he had killed Duncan, Macbeth ordered him and his son Fleance to be killed. Banquo was killed and Fleance escaped, which upheld the witch’s prophecy that Banquo’s future would not be happy and that his offspring would be kings. Macbeth showed his true evil when he ordered Banquo and his son to be killed. It showed that he had the ambition to act in a way that would protect his lust for power by retaining the throne of Scotland.
In the very beginning, we are presented with two figures, Macbeth and Banquo; both of which are great leaders. Banquo and Macbeth are quickly confronted with three witches who prophesized many gracious things towards them and also said in Banquo’s prediction that his heirs would be kings. Having heard this, once Macbeth finally acquires the throne, he fears Banquo, and uses some people in which Banquo had inflicted injury upon in his favor. As he talks to these people, he convinces them to take vengeance:

The famously stormy dark night on which Duncan is killed appears to be brought on by lady Macbeth’s own wishes: “Come, thick night… the dunnest smoke of hell…the blanket of the dark…” (1.5.57-60) The murder and evil that must be done must be covered up and have a fitting background. Her battlements are turned to something out of hell, and the acts of murder are done in a nightmarish scene within Macbeth’s home. By choosing to isolate himself and not inform Lady Macbeth of his plans to murder Banquo we see how Macbeth feels as if he can’t even trust his closest companions. The Tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare is a tale of a man and his un-bridled ambition, set in ancient Scotland. Macbeth is a nobleman of the king of Scotland, Duncan, who is in mid-war with Norway. Macbeth and his fellow general Banquo encounter three witches. The witches tell the pair that Macbeth will be king, and Banquo’s children will also be kings. Any person in their right mind would question information given to them by strangers, let alone witches, but for some reason these statements intrigue Macbeth. They temp Macbeth to do evil things such as treason, and worse, to kill. Although un-bridled ambition is his main tragic flaw, there is one more that plays a big role in his decisions and the outcome of the story; Macbeth is far too impressionable.
Macbeth’s character gives the impression of having undergone enormous changes as the tragedy progresses. But are the real changes in the personality itself? Or is the change really the way in which the same personality is portrayed? Prior to the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth was a famous warrior, a fierce warrior, but his approach to humanity was predisposed to compassion. Macbeth did not have to kill all of the innocent people he had murdered. Instead, he could have turned himself in and said he killed the king. Like most people he didn’t want to die, so he decided to keep this as a secret and tried to live life as best as he could. In order for this to stay a secret he needed to murder a few people. He first had murderers go out and kill Banquo and Fleance. The murderers were able to kill Banquo, but Fleance escaped. Macbeth felt better that Banquo was dead since Banquo knew about the witches rules in order for Macbeth to become king. Therefore, Banquo would assume that Macbeth murdered the king. Now, there would be no assumption from Banquo that Macbeth killed Duncan. Macbeth wanted Fleance to be dead, since the witches said that Banquo’s sons will become the next kings after Macbeth, but Macbeth wanted his family to be the royal family forever. The next person that gets murdered by Macbeth is: Macduff’s family. Macbeth had people hired to kill Macduff’s family. This led Macduff and ten thousand soldiers from England to defeat Macbeth and ultimately kill the villain. All of the murders and the stress that people had to go through because of Macbeth made him a
