What is Change ?

Change is something that presses us out of our comfort zone. Change is the only constant. It can

happen in any sphere of life. But the most predominant of all changes is Change in the

Organizations working methods.

What is Change Management ?

Change management is a structured approach to transitioning individuals, teams and

organizations from a current state to desired state, aimed at employment empowerment for

accepting change in the work environment. It helps the organization to transit from ‘where they

are’ to ‘where they want to be’. Change Management is essential as it helps in:

 The growth in technology also has a secondary effect of increasing the availability and

therefore accountability of knowledge. Easily accessible information has resulted in

unprecedented scrutiny from stockholders and the media and pressure on management.

 With the business environment experiencing so much change, organizations must then learn

to become comfortable with change as well. Therefore, the ability to manage and adapt to

organizational change is an essential ability required in the workplace today.

 Due to the growth of technology, modern organizational change is largely motivated by

exterior innovations rather than internal moves. When these developments occur, the

organizations that adapt quickest create a competitive advantage for themselves, while the

companies that refuse to change get left behind.This can result in drastic profit and/or

market share losses.

 Organizational change directly affects all departments from the entry level employee to

senior management. The entire company must learn how to handle changes to the

organization.

Process of Change Management :

Change management is the application of a structured process and set of tools for leading the

people side of change to achieve a desired outcome.

Understanding:

Step 1: To prepare for change

The first step in this process is to do a thorough analysis of the areas where changes are to be

made. This can be done by identifying the strategy that is to be adopted and selecting the

personnel that would be engaged in this task. Once they have been decided , the necessary

approval from the Top Level Management can be obtained and with the ‘GO’ sign, the plan on

paper can be put to action.

Step 2: To effectively manage change

Once the strategies have been zeroed down, it is necessary to see that they have been

implemented at the right place and at the right time by making use of the available resources

optimally. There will be a lot of ideas when there is a brainstorming session and that time it is the

duty of the Employer in-charge to overlook the ideas and freeze on the most beneficial
