In both Among The Hidden and The Giver, the authors Haddix and Lowry display censorship throughout the story with the use of conflict, theme, and mood.

In the book The Giver it states, "Well, think about it. The Government allowed those books to be published—they probably even paid for them. So of course they're going to say what the Government wants people to believe. They're just propaganda. Lies”( Haddix 4).
The government wants people to believe something that is not real. If they can make people believe something else then they would have control of them. The government fears, without control, there will be chaos.

Therefore, colors role in the text proves our thesis, as the color affects the essence of mood.

In the Giver, it states that, “It was a secret selection, made by the leaders of the community , the Committee of Elders, who took the responsibility so seriously” (Giver 14)
Here it says that there was a secret selection. Nobody had any control of what their leaders were going to be. The most important people in the community elected themselves because of the power they have.
In our country, there is a democracy where people vote for their leaders and representatives. Here in ATH and The Giver, Government officials a not following their own laws in which they made.

-In both cases, Among The Hidden and the Giver the government lies and hides things, so everyone and everything is easier to manage. This helps the government get everyone's support.
-In Among the Hidden page 82 it says "The Government publications are trying to convince people of one thing, so they stretch the facts. And the underground is just as extreme in its own way, making statistics match their cause. So you know
