Society plays an important role in everyone’s daily lives; its forces shape our actions and selves. An example of a type society contribution in people’s lives is environmental racism that is seen all over the United States. In this passage, I will analyze the causes of environmental racism in the lens of the conflict theory, “a paradigm that sees social conflict as the basis of society and social change and that emphasized a naturalist view if the status quo, and a dynamic model of historical change.” (P. 23, 1) Environmental racism is evident and throughout the years pollution and environmental hazards have been increasing drastically in low-income, minorities’ communities, which is caused by class status, race, or ethnicity.
