Vulnerable groups are individuals who require special attention before, during and after natural disasters occur. They include women, children, prisoners, the elderly and persons with disabilities. In the event of sudden natural disasters like earthquakes and storms, very few strategies can be implemented. In the unforeseen instances of these disasters, vulnerable people run the risk of ultimately having disastrous consequences if adequate preparations are not made. Risks to Vulnerable groups and their solution Persons with disabilities have mobility problems these may make people leave them behind because they would slow them down. Individuals suffering from visual and hearing problems may fail to hear and see warnings being broadcasted through various channels thus they would die or get seriously injured from the impending disaster. These individuals require special attention before, during and after a disaster that may be in limited availability. In the trailers provided to people after Hurricane Katrina, reports indicated that rape cases were at 5.9 per day per 100,000 women. The rate at which women were beaten was three times higher than the national annual rate. Pregnant women have limited mobility compared to other people; this makes them slow and prone to be affected by a disaster. Based on the society and work, most women spend much of their time at home. This predisposes them to direct impact of disasters because buildings may collapse on them. Women need to be included in disaster management strategies to reduce the risks that they are exposed to in times of disasters. They need to be empowered to prepare for these disasters and procedures need to be laid down to determine how expectant mothers should be handled (Sargeant,
