The double murder case of O.J. Simpson is one that will live on forever and one that will never be forgotten. On June 12, 1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found dead at Nicole’s home in Los Angeles. According to Doug Linder, it was “most likely a single male that came through the back entrance of Nicole Brown Simpson’s condominium” (Linder). Since they did not have any other suspects they went right to Orenthal James Simpson who was Nicole Simpson’s ex-husband. Law enforcement had seen him as suspicious and they had charged him with both of the murders. The case had gone to trial and it was the prosecutor’s job to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Simpson was guilty and that he had done the crime. Simpson had what was called …show more content…

Criminology theories the nature of a specific crime that was committed all based on the observed social factors and the other variables. While reading out text I came across two different school cases that had talked about the criminological approach. The first school case was Adam Lanza and the Sandy Hook School Shooting. This case talked about how Adam Lanza who was a “socially awkward young man” had gone to a school and just started shooting (Schmalleger 18). People had said that he was mentally ill and that he might have been suffering from different diseases. This case was a good example of deviant behavior, which is “human activity that violates social norms” (Schmalleger 20). Another case that I read about was the Virginia Tech Massacre. If we really think about it no the Virginia Tech Massacre could not have been avoided. I mean it would be nice to think that if there was more security it could have but Seung-Hui Cho had planned things so well that it made it almost impossible to predict. “The attacks on the Virginia Tech campus were planned and executed with near-military precision” (Schmalleger 144). Both of these specific cases had shown different types of deviant behavior and both cases talked about the criminological approach that was taken. I believe that this theory does relate to the …show more content…

Capital punishment is used when there is a serious crime that has been committed. There are different methods of capital punishment and those are, lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, and firing squad. Florida “allows prisoners to choose between lethal injection and electrocution” (Death Penalty Info). In this specific case the death penalty was discussed very often. In California if a person is charged for a double murder they can get the death penalty. It may not happen to every person who commits a double-murder but it can happen. In this case it the death penalty would either be by lethal injection or by gas. While looking at this case there were different reasons as to why Simpson would not be a good candidate for capital punishment. According to Seth Mydans, “one reason, the experts say, is that Mr. Simpson does not have a long criminal record; another is that execution is generally not sought for the killing of a spouse” (Maydans). This argument went back and fourth in trial and the final decision was to not seek the death penalty. When talking about the death penalty there are pros and cons. Some positive things about the death penalty is that is shows people that your actions come with consequences and that it helps people to know that the person who committed the crime will no longer be able to hurt anyone ever again. It gives closure
