Sir Matt busby retired leaving the club with no manager, but the image and success that Matt brought to the club and to the football team had to be kept intact. Matt Busby's position had to be filled, however, there were some issues over here as the club owners were indecisive on whom to appoint to the managerial post. The idea of choosing Matt's successor was someone whom Matt had worked with before, so that this person would know the ins and outs of this prestiguos football club. The choice made by mu's owners was none other than Wilf McGuinness, a former player and coach of Manchester United. Even though Wilf tried his best to take over from Sir Matt Busby, even though Wilf tried his best to continue winning titles for United, he could never win over the Old Trafford faithful, nor was he able to bring in co-ordination amongst players. Age factor of the players was also a major issue to his inability to run the team as efficiently as Sir Matt Busby. To add insult to injury, George Best’s “lover boy” attitude and actions off the pitch didn’t help and to make it worse, Dennis Law, United’s prolific striker, was put for sale in the transfer market. …show more content…
