In the case study of Margarita in part two of the sessions 1 through 3, the counselor will be using Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). These therapy focuses on a hands-on, practical approach to solving problems. Cognitive behavioral therapy is to change the way of thinking or behavior that affects the individual and help changes the attitude of the individual by focusing on the thoughts and attitudes that a person has and how it relates to the way an individual act, as a way of handling emotional issues (Corey, 2017).
Cognitive behavioral therapy goals it to work towards helping individuals discover different ways of thinking to help reduce the client's problems. Albert Ellis was the first person to develop cognitive behavioral therapy also known as rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) and Aaron Beck developed the treatment of cognitive therapy (Corey, 2017). Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach have many strengths with working with individuals from another cultural background. Counselors using CBT when working with diverse counselors can help clients examine their values and counselors will understand more clearly how their client feels (Corey, 2017). CBT is suited to treat diverse clients according to Spiegler (2013), he identifies the individualized treatment, focus on the surface of the environment, significance on learning makes CBT effective.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be effective with working with Margarita who is Puerto Rican because this approach uses a person's belief and perspective as part of the approach of self-awareness. The approach would give Margarita the ability to learn about her issue in way that is neither alarming nor difficult but a learning experiences.
