I. Occupation: Market Research Analyst The occupation that I explored was the market research analyst. Market research analysts collect, analyze and interpret different types of data to improve a company’s current product and increase profits. They look at three areas of the company; the product or service, advertising efforts and sales methods. Under each area, market analysts analyze which marketing efforts are effective and suggest ways to further improve profits. This occupation works in a fast pace and high pressured environment because they are continuously trying to meet deadlines. According to the U.S. Labour statistics, market research analysts “will grow at a rate of 32% which is must faster than the average for other careers” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). II. Likes and Dislikes There are many attractive aspects to this occupation. Working in an industry where companies compete aggressively with each other forces me to make decisions more effectively and efficiently than my competitors. When I participated in the Career Management workshop, I listed many different skills I hoped to develop from my ideal career including analytical, interpersonal and problem solving skills. I find competitive work environments attractive because it encourages me to enhance these skills and challenge myself. I believe that my career should not only exercise the skills that I currently possess, but it should also give me a chance to explore different opportunities where I can acquire new abilities. While participating in the Career Management workshop, I ranked life- long learning, where an individual pursues opportunities to increase their skills and knowledge related to their field of work, as a very important career value.... ... middle of paper ... ...y interests because it involves counselling and guiding others. A financial advisor is an individual who helps their clients budget their assets. Since I am going into finance, I will have extensive knowledge and experience in budgeting and managing money. Another alternative is corporate law. This field of study also falls into enterprising occupations. Not only will I be able to guide and help others, this field is systematic in many ways, and I enjoy that. There are many careers that I am interested in exploring. However, after completing my research on market analysts, I have come to a conclusion that you cannot fully understand how a career truly is unless you pursued it at some point in your life. The reason being is that everyone has different perceptions of what their ideal career is and blindly listening to their opinions can lead to missed opportunities.
