In preparing of the negotiation, the job offer was dissected and each element was assigned a level of importance. The issues which were critical in importance were not relocating to Silicon Valley but remaining in Nashville and the annual salary. To a lesser degree of importance was the signing bonus and stock options. In addition, of least importance was the relocation bonus. With the issues prioritized, I was confident I would not lose perspective during negotiations and agree to less than an ideal contract.
Determine the Compensation Level: Although Susan’s plan to “just do what her competitors are doing” (Nelson Education, 2013) may not have been the best approach to follow, it is in The Fit Stop’s best interest to match their compensation policy to those business’s similar to them. There is no need for The Fit Stop to lead with the best compensation options around, but lagging with the compensation could repel employees and could push them towards working for a competitor. Evaluate the Proposed Strategy: Affordability of these theoretical applications is not obtainable within the first couple of years of business.
“To make your company competitive and attractive to job candidates you have to offer an exceptional total benefits package” (Obringer, 2003, para.1). This is especially true in the current economic environment. The employee’s needs are changing so businesses are having to rethink their compensation and benefits packages. The home improvement industry is no exception to this phenomenon. Companies like Ace Hardware, Lowes Home Improvement, and The Home Depot have had to adapt their benefits packages to stay competitive in an industry with an ever-changing employee demographic. The following pages will include a comparison of all the benefits offered by Ace Hardware, Lowes Home Improvement, and The Home Depot, as well as, a glimpse into whether or not their strategies seem to have been successful. The majority of the benefits are available to all employees, but some of them are only available to corporate team members. To make sure that all of the available benefits are covered and for comparisons sake, the focus of this report will be on the corporate level of benefits. Also due to the wide salary ranges between low level employees and corporate employees, this report will not focus on salaries.

For my experience in this field I went in and interview my dad and asked him about something’s that he does around the office and what the big part of his job is and he explicated. I found out that there are very high risks in this job because you are handling people’s money, when sometimes this is the customer’s whole life savings going into your hands to try to make money. This would work well with me because I am very good with numbers which, leads to being really good in math. From the interview I also learned that you have to be a people’s person because most of the job is trying to get people to let you handle their most in return for a commission or a part of the money that will be made. I learned that this job will be me sitting at a desk for most of the day and sometimes sitting down with old customers or new customers deciding what route they want to take with their money. I liked that my dad is very dexterous or skillful.

Performance-based compensation exists when compensation is tied directly to that portion of an individual’s performance that can be effectively measured. There are a number of ways in which this may be accomplished and a number of examples as well how it is applied. One of the oldest examples is taken from the ancient Egyptians, where slaves working in the pyramids were given bread for superior performance. As per Martocchio (2017), “compensation represents both the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards employees receive for performing their jobs and for their membership as employees” (p. 3). Therefore, compensation structures should achieve three objectives: attract top talent, motivate employees to perform at a high level, and boost employee retention rates (Kulik, 2004). In the business development sector, all three goals are vital to maintain a competitive advantage and increase market share.
