Breaking the Stigma: #MHActNow “Papansin!” “Drama mo naman!” “Nag-iinarte lang yan!” These are just some of the comments people who are going through mental health problems receive in their everyday battle. People who are diagnosed with a mental disorder are vulnerable and they are easily triggered to negativity affecting the way they think and act. Mental health should be taken seriously or else it may lead the individual to what he/she perceived as permanent solution to his/her problems which may be suicide. These perceptions are continuously changing through the course of time. A mentally ill person gradually shows symptoms of being ill. For individuals having such mental health issue, he/she is fragile and might do things to oneself such as self-harm or even suicide just to make up for the emotional pain. “Factors can also include physical trauma, such as a brain injury, or the misuse of substances such as street drugs or alcohol which may put them at higher risk for developing a mental illness. The amount of stress people are under, and the duration of that stress can impact one’s mental health.” (Canadian Health Association) Mental health can be acquired with both physical and social factors. “New research suggests the seeds of psychological problems are planted well before birth.
