Casablanca, directed by Micahel Curtiz, is said to be one of the world 's best movies. At the time, it had an all-star cast, and apparently they are still considered legendary. The main stars of the film were Ingrid Berman as Ilsa Laslow, Humphry Bogart as Rick, and Paul Henreid as Victor Laslow. The cast did a fantastic job of portraying their characters. Rick plays the main role as a man who runs a popular “saloon” in Casablanca. His true love, Ilsa, comes with her husband, Victor, to seek for help to go to America. Upon encountering Rick, Ilsa becomes weak and wants to stay with him in Casablanca rather than go with her husband to America. Towards the beginning of the movie, I didn’t think there was any point to the story and was completely lost. As the movie progressed it got a little better and I got a general understanding of what was going on. There was some comedy in the movie which was enjoyable, like the bartender who was in love with Rick’s “girlfriend” and would do anything for her. I don’t think this was a “chick-flick” or a woman’s movie even. To be considered a romantic movie, there would need to be more of a love concept involved. Let’s take the movie, The Vow, for example. It is considered a romantic movie and one of the best “chick-flicks” there is out today. There is much more of a romantic background to this movie. The plot revolves around a married couple who get into a terrible car accident where the wife loses her memory. The husband tries to do everything he can to make her remember that they were a married couple, but the wife refuses to believe anything and doesn’t want anything to do with him. In the end, she finally gives in and wants to know everything that they had between them. Normally, in romantic movies there’s always a happy conclusion. Casablanca ended with Victor taking Ilsa home rather than Rick, which personally shocked
