279 Words1 Page

Many historians view Carter’s term as president infective due to his way of dealing with the hostage crisis in Iran and the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan. The hostage crisis in Iran and the speed of release of those hostages is one major event making Carter’s term deemed as ineffective. The number of American hostages was 52 all of which were held hostage in the U.S. Embassy located in Tehran, Iran. The hostages were held over a year, 444 days. Carter’s negotiations all had failed and his onetime using the military force was a failure as both aircraft collided into each other. The hostages were not released until the time Nixon was sworn into presidency. This crisis showed that Carter was unable to deal with foreign issues effectively.
