A role as a Product Manager at my current employment is the job that I want to obtain when I graduate from Winthrop. I have worked for the same manufacturer of medical equipment for ten years, and I think that I would be a great candidate for this position. I possess both the skills and knowledge needed for this job. The production side of the business is where I initially started working and after a few years I progressed to the engineering department. Most of my career has been directly involved in engineering some type of equipment, so it seems that I always been involved in the manufacturing side of products or directly in the research and development of products. So not only do I understand the job, but I feel that I am qualified to pursue a career as a product manager. The product manager job that I selected just so happens to be within the same company that I currently work at. This gives me an advantage over other candidates, because know and understand the product line very well. I received an award in 2015 for my successful contribution of a launch of a new product line. I project managed different aspects of this new launch that directly interfaces with the customer, both with options and pricing. This job would probably require an MBA and given the chance I will pursue a path towards this advanced degree. Our sessions with the design institution has though me so much that in a meeting I showed the marketing team a new way of doing PowerPoint presentations where a picture is worth a thousand words and not to use death by powerpoint. This I learn from this our session at the SABS. This has now created opportunities for me as now I am actively been ask to get involved in marketing meeting and processes, this has made me grow as a leader as well. My love for business is not something I was born with. It took over a decade of experience and exploration to discover my passion. This discovery began ten years ago when I accepted a position at The Pitney Bowes Corporation. My job was to make unsolicited phone calls to prospective businesses in order to sell our base model postage meter. All that was required was reading a script, word for word, to potential buyers. Yet, after a week of working at Pitney Bowes, I still didn't know important details about the meter, like what it looked like, and how it actually operated. My manager acted a bit surprised when I asked to see the meter, but she agreed, and I took a walk to an adjacent building where I saw first hand what I was selling. It looked completely different from what I had expected, but by viewing and touching it first hand, my ability to convey to people what I was offering improved dramatically. Once I viewed the device, I felt more confident to adlib on the sales pitch. In a couple of weeks reading my hybrid pitch led to a higher rate of sales. People were more apt to buy from someone who sounded like a person and less like a robot. My sales steadily improved and in my third month I was the number one sales person out of over 200 employees. Management implemented some of my changes in the selling process and as a result, overall sales of the entry model postage meter increased significantly.

Choosing a career in marketing can lead a person in many different directions within the defined roles of marketing. Composed of many facets and activities marketing careers offer a variety of avenues for the career minded to explore while offering growth and opportunities for advancement. A common denominator for many who choose a career in this field is the sense of ownership, or entrepreneurial spirit with regards to the products or services that they are working to market. Marketing requires that an understanding of customers’ needs and desires be acquired and then translated into both product development as well as communications as part of the marketing strategy. Being a business administrative doesn’t require much additional training, but it requires plenty of additional duties. The additional duties actually come in very handy when a person gets promoted to a higher position. In the business world, it is optional if you want to continue your education to hold a certain position. Nobody is forcing you to go out there and further more your education, but in my opinion I would make the best choice in going much further with my education. There’s no problem in going further with your education, but if you do then you’re making a great choice to learn more in the business
Perfection is not within the realms of possibility, but I always knew if I aim for perfection, I could at least achieve excellence. This is the mantra I have followed in every walk of life. I have always learnt to appreciate everything I have taken up, thoroughly and to the fullest. In this competitive pace of life, I have learnt a lot from my experiences and I am still striving to learn more.
