Imagine working in a daycare with children of different ages. Children of different ethnic backgrounds, culture, race, thoughts, behavior, and economic status. We may notice that each child has a unique personality; some children may be difficult to manage and others are mannerly. Some people may wonder the reason for this diversity in children. Obliviously, I have become one of those people. I have worked and volunteer at daycares facilities multiple occasions that it has inspired me to pursue a career in psychology. However, attending community college has also influence me to pursue a career in psychology.
There were many responsibilities and challenges that I had to overcome when I worked in a daycare. Before working in a daycare, it
Child care is a rewarding and yet demanding career. These demands come from an abundance of sources: consistent changes to rules and regulations, requests from parents, and the forever evolving needs of a child in your care. Not only should these demands help solidify you as a growing early childhood professional, there are also plenty of other demands that can significantly affect your career choice. These include educational levels, levels of hands-on training, personal interests, family obligations, values, abilities, and your individual professional priorities.
Every day, scientists around the world learn more and more about the human brain involving mental and behavioral processes. All this research about the brain and how it works is done with the help of research psychologists. In order for these researchers to get all the correct and useful information needed, research psychologists need to have the proper education about how the human brain works and functions, they need to have certain abilities needed for particular tasks, and they must have communication skills so that they are able to explain their findings to others.
Volunteering at a children’s crisis treatment facility, volunteering with Special Olympics, coaching children’s sports teams for 10 years and working as a substitute education assistant has increased my understanding of childhood development. Grandmound Elementary School provides me with opportunities to strengthen my leadership and collaboration skills, through teaching art (as a volunteer) to the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and serving as PTA president. I was able to implement many enriching opportunities for students in areas of art, science, and reading. I learned to work as a team, set targets, achieve goals, give and receive guidance. Participating in these activities has confirmed that working with families and particularly children are my purpose.
Counseling psychology is one of the most interesting career choices in the field of psychology. However, this career fits my personality in several aspects. A person in counseling psychology will generally use personality tests, interviews, case histories, and observation methods to evaluate a patients' problems, needs, and goals. Counseling psychologists will evaluate data and, create an action plan or treatment plan to counsel the patient with. The goal in this career is to help each patient work toward developing and adjusting social, educational, personal, and vocational skills. I’ve always had an interest in listening to people. Throughout my adult years, people of
My thoughts, was if I could help young mothers to become better mothers to their children. I resigned from CGA, in 2008 and opened the doors to my daycare in 2009.I was a business owner, opened my 1st home based daycare, and that was my moment. It quickly became apparent to me that this was not just babysitting someone’s child/children; this was in fact a business with laws and regulations. I read and researched ever and anything I could find on daycare and how to run a business. Myself along with my little staff and the parents I had a team; and with their help my business became a company. While running a daycare and going through my educational journey, I have learn how blind I was to all the other ideas, theories and practices of other people. How accepting opinions and criticism would help me grow as a person and educator. My Company is made up of two separate businesses. But both have the same goal to teach children, and adults about child care. The daycare has been such a powerful influence in my life; it has given me a great since of accomplishment, and satisfaction.
My choice of research was in the play behaviors of children as well as aggression. Breaking the topic down more, behavior relates to the psychology and the psyche of each individual. The definition of psychology is “science of mind and behavior” (Clavijo, 2013). After reading the article by Clavijo, I have realized that psychology can be defined in three ways such as the study of the mind, the study of behavior, and the study of the mind and behavior. In the text “The Developing Person” by Berger, behavior is learned through social learning. Children learn different behaviors through the observation of others, others being children and adults. Different people have affects on a child’s life that can affect their behavior. A child’s behavior is heavily influenced by their parents. A son may speak aggressively and without respect towards his mother because this is the way that his father speaks to her therefore he feels that is how to communicate with his mother (Berger, 200, 2012). Moving into play behaviors, children learn from other children in how to play. Most believe cognitive growth relies on child’s play time. Vygotsky and Piaget both believe that when children play it is beneficial, but according to Vygotsky, playing enables a child to think outside the box and create their own meaning from objects, using their imagination. Piaget believes that child benefit from playing together because children and sharing their knowledge and making it more concrete ideas and thoughts. There are four stages of plays, with the fourth stage being the highest most complicated play which consists of rules and guidelines for the game. The lowest level or play would be functional play being infants shaking rattles, clapping their hands, or blow...
For this assignment, I decided to speak with Connie Chung, my guidance counselor from high school. Today, she continues to work at West Orange High School, providing academic support to select teenagers of the student body. Mrs. Chung received her BA in psychology from Rutgers University and then got her Masters in social work from the University of Maryland. Initially, Ms. Chung was interested in becoming a psychologist but realized that she liked working with kids and ultimately decided to change carer paths in college.

As an undergraduate, at Western Michigan University, my studies were in psychology. Having previously worked with both children in schools and elders in nursing homes, I wanted to expand my resume when I chose my field work. I was able to complete my hours at Gryphon Place in Kalamazoo. This is a conflict and crisis center where I specialized in crisis intervention and suicide prevention. This experience gave me a feeling of accomplishment and pride in knowing that I was not only helping others but also saving lives. After working at Gryphon Place my career outlook changed drastically. Originally I just wanted to work with kids and I
One of the foundations of a liberal arts education is the ability to explore topics across several disciplines. I took some depth psychology classes and found them fascinating. Furthermore, I could see how the study of psychology was useful to me as a writer and also a powerful tool for creating change, by learning what motivates people, and how we think about ourselves and the world. After changing my concentration to psychology, I still found plenty of time for writing. This switch did not hinder my studies, but helped me have diverse and dynamic academic experiences that are central to a liberal arts education. Now, at the end of my journey to earning a four year degree, I am working as a preschool teacher and loving it everyday.
The career field I picked was Child Psychology. Child psychology is the study of how children act and behave. In general, a childhood psychologist might work with children and their primary caregivers in order to research, assess, and possibly treat developmental issues. Depending on his preferred area of study, a child psychologist will often work with all sorts of children. Not every child that a child psychologist works with is considered to be abnormal. A child psychologist might work with so-called "normal" children for several reasons.
My overall vision for contributing to the specialized field of psychology as a practitioner-scholar would be to use what I learned from the model to enhance theoretical concepts and exercise well-thought-out empirical inquiry to study the usefulness of professional intercessions. My long-term goals that help you achieve your vision are once in the field I will then constantly challenge myself and use all the methodologies and skills to be a better psychologist and apply it to my everyday life as well.
It is no secret that our country is seriously lacking when it comes to managing the mental health issues of its citizens. Not only are mental health services expensive and not covered by many types of insurance, but mental health care providers are not always easy to find. To this end I have developed a career goal that is not something I see coming with a specific job title or one that I can see reaching without the help of others. My career goal is to use my background in both information technology and psychology to benefit those in need and to expand mental health care services into communities that are currently lacking easy access to the services.
Because of my early interest in children, I developed a strong desire to teach; consequently, I sought out jobs that allowed me varied experiences with children. My first experience was baby-sitting. Here I quickly learned that children must be told precisely what to do. For example, "Go wash your hands with soap and dry them right now." Or, "You must take your shoes off and then you may get into the bathtub." From the many baby-sitting jobs I had, I soon discovered that if I did not have a plan the day would be total chaos. As early as thirteen I became familiar with the need for structure and creativity when dealing with younger children and found myself loving every minute of it.
My passion for psychology started since I was in middle school; I have been surprised on many psychology theories and how captivating psychology would help to explain human behaviors. Therefore, I have begun my desire to concentrate on researching about psychology, specified in the cognitive neuroscience area, particularly on human memory and languages.
