In order to achieve in a career there are steps a person must go through to receive want they want. On the other hand, The career of a doctor like Alfred Blalock have a huge responsibility because when a person’s life ends up in the hands of the doctor he has to make the hard and difficult decisions. A doctor career requires earning a doctoral degree in medicine and Alfred Blalock did it. He pursued his career by going to University of Georgia to study medicine, he then became a surgeon. Since the inception of civilization, people have dedicated themselves to certain practices to obtain needed supplies. With the advancement of society, these practices have specialized into roles that society needed and have become jobs and careers. With these jobs and careers, people have struggled to find a difference between the two, if there is one. However, the two are very different. There are a multitude of differences between a job and a career, but the most distinct differences being the necessary skill, and dedication needed.
My life experiences thus far bring the best of both worlds to my education and career goals; a student coupled with a variety of life experiences. Being a newly graduated non-traditional student, mother of school-aged children, and experience working with students in the classroom, I bring diversity to your program. Through personal analysis and efforts with other professionals, I have overcome early childhood tragedies. Desiring to make the best use of my experiences by helping others to overcome trauma, and insecure upbringings by conquering these adversities and circumstances positively. Through my example of grit, tenacity, resilience, and perseverance, I hope to offer much to the students in my role as their mentor.
For the longest time I could not decide on a major and a career to study throughout college. When I came to Georgia Southern University I discovered that they had a major that was very interesting to me. Sport Management id the ideal major for my interest and me. So with looking further into all of the different criminal justice paths I could go down and with my love for science I thought being a forensic scientist would be the perfect job. Application of career theories to my own life allows for analyzing past and future career decisions. Holland’s Theory of Careers states that one’s vocation is an expression of self, personality, and way of life. There is an indisputable and fundamental difference in the quality of life one experiences if they choose a career one truly enjoys, versus choosing a career one detests. A true testament to the validity of Holland’s theory, my job/career choices reflect my interests, as well as the evolution of my personality (internal self). My first job as a fine jewelry specialist and second job as a make-up artist echo my love of the fashion world. As I matured and became less fascinated by presumed “glamour” careers, I became captivated by physical fitness, nutrition, and medicine; I received my national fitness trainer certificate so that I may become a personal trainer. Nevertheless, my career decisions do not fit uniformly into merely one career theory.
There will be a certain point in your life, when you will have to make a major life decision, from buying a car, to buying a house, to what career you want to have. It is a route through which individuals choose a career path or professional occupation, continue to develop it through their lives and have several major career change as personal needs and interests change.
My career goal is to specialize in cardiology or neurology after majoring in biology for my undergraduate years and work with an organization that specializes in either one of those two fields. My life aspirations are to continue to gain more knowledge and excel in a career where I can be financially stable. I love learning; I love it when I learn something in one class and I am able to connect it to the concepts in another class or apply it to life in general. To me, learning is a lifelong process.
