The word “Death” has connotation meaning to it. Many are afraid of the unknown, but others are fascinated. If there's death there must be a body to claim. The career of a Medical Examiner focuses on dead people. This is the next step of my journey I would like to accomplish. Due to the career research project I was capable to expand my knowledge and reflect about my future career. In this research I was able to acquire more information a about what a Medical Examiner is, the requirements and it's income. Although, I had a sense of what a Medical Examiner was like, I had to expand my intellectual thirst. The career Medical Examiner falls under one of the biggest field the medical field. Medical Examiners are people that find the cause of the victim's death. They are responsible for finding if the death was suicide, homicide, accidental, unknown, or natural(www.explorehealthcareers.org). As a M.E you are able to do autopsies on the body to collect evidence or factors that might have contributed to the death(www.learningpath.org). I found out that this career expects a lot from an individual. As an undergraduate student one has an option to select a major. There's chemistry, biology, or physics to choose for a bachelor's degree(www.study.com). Next, you must have a four years of medical school, five years in a residential training of clinic pathology and anatomical, and one year in forensic pathology training(www.learningpath.org). What is a mortician, and what exactly do people in this profession do? Morticians have many different responsibilities, most of their responsibilities revolve around taking care of the dead, helping the living go through the grieving process, and managing a funeral home. Being a mortician is not a career for everyone. Because morticians often have to work around the dead and the grieving many people would find the job emotionally exhausting and stressful. The schooling required to become a mortician is a deciding factor in whether or not a mortician or funeral director will be employed in their industry. Without morticians and funeral directors, funerals would not be what they are today. Choosing to be a mortician is not for everyone; morticians have an important role in modern day society as well as a challenging one.
Instead, state governments should provide more funding and training for county coroner’s so they can do their jobs well with the proper facilities and equipment. Coroners are important elected officials and should not be replaced by appointed medical examiners who are not accountable to the public (“Coroners and Forensic Science”). Electing coroners with little medical experience and allowing them to perform autopsies with no real regulatory oversight is a deeply flawed and outdated method for conducting death investigations. Knowing the appearance of a normal organ helped me to recognize when an organ was abnormal whether that was through weight or appearance. I have learned that the human body encapsulates teachable knowledge and evidence that leads to the diagnosing of disease and corresponding treatment. My time spent shadowing in autopsies confirmed my interest in learning more about the field of medicine and the doctor’s role in direct patient care. Imagine yourself as a mortician, certified as an embalmer, retort operator, funeral director, and a funeral cosmetologist. You get a call late at night, there’s been a terrible accident and someone has died. You arrive at the hospital and are directed to a small room where the body of the deceased is being held. There’s blood all over the sheets as the doctor and coronary assistant zip up the body bag and inform you the body was badly mangled in a car accident, which is going to make reconstructing the deceased very difficult. Your assistant puts the body on the stretcher and loads it into the hearse while you talk to the wife of the deceased man. She tells you they plan to have a funeral so you give her your card and a reassuring word before leaving the hospital and driving back to the funeral home. Now your job begins, not only will you have to reconstruct this man’s disfigured body, but you must meet with the family, discuss funeral arrangements, and deal with the family’s emotional trauma that comes with losing a loved one. Although working in the funeral business can be emotionally draining, it’s a satisfying feeling to see mourning families able to say goodbye to their loved ones. Despite the fact that working so closely with the deceased can be chilling, Mortuary science can be a thrilling field to work in.
Throughout this researched that I investigated I became interested in this field in a way. If I had an option in medical field I would take the option. Knowing that you are helping patients out is an amazing feeling. I would work with infants rather than adults. I would cherish every moment because you would never know if that’s the last time to work with the patient not just because of death but maybe cause they might recover from there sickness.
The subject of death and dying is a common occurrence in the health care field. There are many factors involved in the care of a dying patient and various phases the patient, loved ones and even the healthcare professional may go through. There are many controversies in health care related to death, however much of it roots from peoples’ attitudes towards it. Everyone handles death differently; each person has a right to their own opinions and coping mechanisms. Health care professionals are very important during death related situations; as they are a great source of support for a patient and their loved ones. It is essential that health care professionals give ethical, legal and honest care to their patients, regardless of the situation.

The education level chosen depends on what kind of forensic job you are interested in and what salary you are going for.
