Career: Animation The art of animation is one that is used very commonly today. It is displayed upon billboards and in movie theaters around the world. The job allows you to express oneself through animations and creating characters that come to life through animation. To become an animator one needs to have a degree in animation, courses for this are given at many colleges, and it is helpful to have a degree in other relevant categories such as film or illustration. Some skills that are useful for animators to have include creativity, artistic ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure. Many animators are self-employed, due to the standards for animators being high. It can also be hard for animators to find work
Acting is seen in your everyday life, whether it be on a tv, in a movie theatre, on a stage, or even in person! Acting goes as far back as 500 B.C. when it was used for the same thing it is today, entertainment. It still goes by the same basic rules, yet it has changed some. I’ve always loved the thought of being an actress on the big stage, so I thought this would be the perfect time to figure out if this is what I really want, or possibly make me want it even more.

When people hear the word 'Animation' the first thing that may come to mind would be cartoon. Although this is partially the correct answer, what many people don't realize is that without animation's history many things we take for granted today would not exist. A lot of the inventions and innovations in the industry of animation would have prevented the film, gaming, graphics, and even the computer industry to almost being non-existent. The story of animation is far from their famous kid-friendly fairy tales and colorful worlds, in fact many animated films and short films are too dark or sexual for children to even view. From Mainstream to Avant-Garde, the story is filled with hundreds of companies across the world rising and falling from fame, animators and film directors working years on films then destroying them in their downfall. It may be a bit surprising to find out that this massive and intricate story started over 29 years before Disney was even born.
Today about 79,000 people work in computer animations, and is estimated that about 90,200, give or take, will work in computer animations. These people work in a variety of forms of computer animations from a fun Disney Pixar film to a very violent, gory, brutal, have to be 18+ to play video game (like Dead Space). Employment for this career require at least a bachelor’s degree in computer animations and design. You can find a job at any of the big name movie studios like Pixar, or you can find a job at a video game studio like Bethesda Softworks.
Just like most art forms it takes practice to become really good at animating. Computers have helped to make animation a quicker and simpler process then it once was. Now computers have been used in almost every animated film that has come out in the last ten years. Because of this animation quality has improve dramatically to the point that animated characters are serving as major characters in many of the top movies today. This includes characters such as Ja-Ja Banks in Starwars, The many dinosaurs of the Jurassic Park movies, and Gollum in the Lord of the Ring movies.

Animation played a major role for the advancement of motion film in 1900’s. Before motion picture camera, frame by frame photographs were used to understand animal and human movement. Eventually a series of famous cartoons would be created which would lead to the expansion of animation studios in New York and California. One famous animation studio that opened up was Walt Disney, which would eventually dominate animation for many years. Disney animation brought many spectacular films and entertainment to people of the U.S.A. Disneys was dragged into WWII as it was requested by the government for its talented art and propaganda during WWII. But Disney was able to continue to strive in producing more animated films after its effort for the war. Walt Disney was a cinematographer who took his career into animation.Walt graduated from Kansas City Art Institute, where he met Ub Iwerks, a greatly skilled animator and Walts collaborated partner. Walts career would begin while working for the Kansas City Film Ad Company in Missouri in 1920. They would be the founders of the Laugh-O-gram Films studio working to to produce several cartoons based off fables and fairy tales. Walt Disney created several pilot shorts of a show called Alice in Cartoonland, a film combining both live action and animation. As I reflect and look at my career journey, I realize that I have not really had a career journey. I have held a few jobs; however, I have not had a job I would consider my career yet. Furthermore, I only worked for a couple of months in each of the jobs I had in the past. Currently, I do not have a job yet, and I realize that I am now 24 years of age and should be starting my way to my career. However, I have not looked into jobs in my career field because I feel as though I am not ready yet to start working in my field.

Animators also require a bachelor's degree, and employers look for workers who have a good portfolio of work and strong technical skills.
