Natural Calamities The Philippines is a tropical country being visited by a number of typhoons and storms every year. According to TIME.com, on the average, eight or nine tropical storms make a landfall in the Philippines each year, and even though we are always prepared and ready for these natural calamities, still, these natural disasters are affecting the economic growth and development of our country, and no one can deny the horrors and the bad effects that those calamities carry every time they visit the Philippines. According to the report of the Philippine Senate in 2013, from 2000 to 2012, the annual socioeconomic damage of natural calamities in the country was estimated at US$251.58 million.
