The Fall of the Western Roman Empire
There were many reasons for the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Two of which were the rise of the Byzantine Empire in the east and the numerous barbarian tribes of the west.
The western half and eastern half both experienced battles with local and non local invaders. The eastern halves strength was derived from their military generals and the defensive fortifications their cities possessed and because of these attributes they were able to remain an empire for a thousand years longer than the western half. The Byzantine Empire also had strong connections with asia and the silk road. Being able to use the silk road for trade gave them a stronger economy than the west.

The Roman empire was a very large and successful empire, although like many things it had to come to an end. The three primary reasons that had most contributed to Rome's fall is foreign invasions, military weakness , and weak leadership.
The Byzantine Empire is distinct because they stress education which results in them doing better in other areas like trade,law,and skills like architecture. There were many reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire. Each one interweaved with the other. Many even blame the initiation of Christianity in 337 AD by Constantine the Great as the definitive cause while others blame it on increases in unemployment, inflation, military expenditure and slave labour while others blame it on the ethical issues such as the decline in morals, the lack of discipline of the armies and the political corruption within the Empire. Three major contributions that led to the collapse of the once great empire were: the heavy military spending in order to expand the Empire, the over-reliance on slave labour which led to an increase in unemployment, and the political corruption and abuse of power by the Praetorian Guard leading to the unfair selection of many disreputable emperors and the assassination of those not favoured by the Guard. After the fall of the Roman Empire in Western Europe, part of the former empire was salvaged and the capital moved to Constantinople, where the surviving tidbits of western civilization still survived. Eventually, the centrality of Constantinople in addition to carrying on the Roman Empire in the form of the Byzantine Empire made the city thrive, making it one of the most, if not the most, magnificent cities in the world at the time. Constantinople became a great hub of trading, because of its geographic location serving as a checkpoint from Europe to the Middle East and Asia or Africa, and because had large bodies of water on both sides of it which allowed ports for ship trading to develop.
