Travis Scott's song “Butterfly Effect” is about his new life and his love for his new Lamborghini Huracan. He talks about how he can never go back to his old life because of how much money he is making. He uses similes, metaphors, alliterations and slang to help describe that he loves his new life and his lamborghini. Also in his song he is cocky and showing of all his cash and chains, he also has made lots a new friends and it's clear that he doesn't want to go back. In Travis Scott's song Butterfly effect he uses literary devices to make his song clear. In the first part of the song the chorus he uses a simile. ´´M&Ms, sweet like candy cane´´. This is comparing M&M's and candy cane using a simile to compare these candy. After the chorus
The song has heavily used imagery when stating “And the Legal pads were yellow, hour’s long, pay packet lean. And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been.” This is used to explain his stress of coming back to civilization after war and all the things that once traumatized you are now take place in a different way. The song also uses Social Criticism“And she was like so many more from that time on. Their lives were all so empty, till they found their chosen one.” This is used to say that a female’s life is incomplete until they settle down and marry. Cold chisel has added this in to reconnect with their message to show that women are incomplete without their male counterparts and it makes it hard for both people in the relationship after war because of a miscommunication between love and
Imagine being trapped in a ghetto, seeing communities leaving in trains, families being split up, never to see each other again.. The emotions that each and every Holocaust survivor must’ve gone through is overwhelming. Some things that are taken for granted, will never be seen again. While reading the two texts, Night by Elie Wiesel and “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” by Pavel Friedman, The two predominant emotions that prevailed most to Holocaust victims and survivors were hope and fear.
The Mirabal Sisters, otherwise known as Las Mariposas, made their mark in history due to their efforts in the revolution against the Trujillo regime in the Dominican Republic. Julia Alvarez, a native Dominican herself, wrote In the Time of the Butterflies due to an account told by Dede Mirabal about the lives and tragic fate of her sisters Patria, Minerva, and Maria Teresa. Dede’s three sisters were murdered due to their involvement in the revolution; Dede did not join the revolution, and thus survived to help recount their story. Since the novel’s publication in 1994, In the Time of the Butterflies has impacted various aspects of life, and contemporary culture frequently alludes to facets of the novel. One critic commented that "In the Time of the Butterflies suggests that the Mirabal sisters not only fought against the Trujillo regime, but also against the Dominican Republic’s patriarchal culture and gender roles. They were very
For example, He says “The barbed wire encircled us like a wall…”(11). He is trying to compare barbed wire to a wall. He wants us to imagine it was a wall and that's what it felt like for them but he always turned it into a positive because he felt they were now part of a small Jewish republic. In addition, He also said “Monday went down like a small summer cloud, like a dream in the first hours of dawn.”(18). He trying to tell us that monday felt short by describing what it literally felt like but it wasn’t actually. Emotions can get really high in times this and things start to feel different . Similes were a way for the author to express his feelings to the
A lot of times, people find music a great way to express how they feel. Perhaps they cannot find the words to explain how they feel but a song can put it perfectly. Songs can tell a story, give a message, or simply be a nice beat to dance to. In the song, “Same Drugs” by Chance the Rapper, he tells a story of someone he grew up with who has since changed now that they are adults. Talking about the simplicity of when they were kids and now they are adults. Comparing their relationship to the story of Peter Pan, he uses the lines, “When did you change? Wendy, you’ve aged,” to express them growing up, aging, and changing (Chance The Rapper). He compares his old childhood friend to Wendy and compares himself to Peter Pan. Although it is easy to believe this song is about drugs, this song is not about drugs. Not only is this song enjoyable to listen to, but listening to the story allows people to relate. Using Peter Pan to compare to
The song “Use Somebody” by King of Leon shows Holden’s perception of the world. For example, Holden walks around New York and criticizes all he see’s. He says, “ New York is terrible, when somebody laughs on the street very late at night. You can hear it for miles. It makes you feel so lonesome and depressed” (Salinger 81). Holden thinks of everyone and everything in a depressing manor. Everything that other people do, makes him depressed and which makes them a “phony”. In addition, the band King of Leon feel the same way when they say, “ I’ve been roaming around/Always looking down at all I see” (King of Leon). Holden always sees things in a negative way and is looking down on life. Holden does not have the happiness that other people have
Figurative language can be found all around us including music. The famous line “Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind wanting to start again?” is a figurative language in the song Firework by Katy Perry. This simile was used to compare a real life emotion, how people can feel so worthless and insignificant like a plastic bag at times. Sometimes you just feel so worthless and insignificant in life, you just want to start all over again. You feel the need to start a new life and move away from people, and places you currently know. Your life starts to feel like a waste, like a plastic bag so insignificant and worthless. You start think that you don’t belong in the life you live in. But like Katy Perry says, “You don’t
Fifty-seven years ago on an abandoned road in the Dominican Republic, three venerated sisters and their driver were murdered. Their death actuated the eradication of the vicious dictator, Rafael Trujillo. In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez illustrates this compelling story: the story of the Mirabal sisters. The author gives life to these women as a tribute to them and as an attempt to share their heroism and bravery with North American readers who were not familiar with the sisters’ impact. Critical reviews of Alvarez’s novel differ. Many critics praise the novel, some identify weaknesses in the work, and one critic categorizes the work as belonging to a new genre.
6. The simile in this poem is “You can't order a poem like you order a taco“, which compares poems and tacos. It states they are different because poems are hiding, waiting be created and cannot be instantaneously be conceived, whilst tacos can.
The theme in “Viva La Vida” by a coldplay is no matter what place you are on in The Wheel of Fortune, have fate. In this lyrical poem, the narrator did not have enough fate and wounded up in a sad position on The Wheel of Fortune in such a short period of time. “Viva La Vida” has 11 stanzas with 4 lines each. Stanzas 9 and 11, and same with 4, 8, and 10 have repetition. The poem also has imagery, metaphors, and alliteration. I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing/ Roman Cavalry choirs are singing is an example of sound imagery. This poetic device in this case is showing that his kingdom is proud of something he did and therefore is celebrating. It was the wicked and wild wind is an example of a metaphor and alliteration. As a metaphor this is comparing
Salinger’s symbols in the novel help the reader understand that growing up is a necessary part of human’s and should not be ignored. Holden is forced to accept that just as he had to grow up so does every other child in the world. Holden represents the hard years between adulthood and childhood and how they affect a teenager. Through Holden we learn not to make his mistakes and instead to enjoy every period of life.
Economics is more than money, income, and making a profit, rather it is a study of how society manages its scarce resources; but, one change can cause an enormous effect. This is called the “butterfly effect.” In this analogy, it is hypothetically said that the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world. In relation to economics we see that raising or lowering the price of one item can cause the prices for various other items to fluctuate. The United States runs on the system of a market economy where the individuals and businesses make the economic decisions, while the Soviet Union had a command economy where the government decided how many goods should be made and determined prices for every item.
The number of ways this song can be interpreted and connected to Catcher In The Rye is almost endless. The lyrics to “Jumper” showcase suicide, depression, and mental health, all of them being major factors in Holden’s life. When I read through the lyrics to this song, a couple of questions came to mind. What does the ledge represent? Who is being pushed off of it? What is causing them to want to ‘jump’? One theory I have is a situation in which Holden is the person who is writing the song and he is reflecting back on his own life. Within the first chapter of Catcher In The Rye, we learn that Holden is telling the entire story as a flashback narrative after he has been check into a mental health clinic, or something of the sort. The lines “
For instance, in line , Romeo says "With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out" the author uses metaphors in this quote basically what he is trying to say is that love gave
I started to think about how this story could be changed, the song could relate to someone’s past relationship, possibly a boyfriend cheated on his girlfriend. He might of had a lot of issues with himself, possibly a mental disorder, thus meaning that he put a lot of pressure on his partner, making it stres...
