A Cat and Mouse Game Bullying is defined as an intent to harm. (Leigh, 2013). Bullying, itself, causes 160,000 kids to stay home from school everyday, and it is the cause of approximately 4,400 deaths per year. (Wordpress, 2016). “Bully-related suicide can be connected to any type of bullying, including physical bullying, emotional bullying, cyberbullying, and sexting, or circulating suggestive or nude photos or messages about a person.” (Wordpress, 2016). Bullying is a very serious and growing issue in today’s day and age because of the advancement in technology. The bully shows the same characteristics of a cat, and the victim portrays the characteristics of the mouse in the “cat and mouse game.” A cat often chases a mouse until it finds itself in the correct position to pounce on the mouse and kill it. A bully does the same exact thing if you look at the bully and victim from the same perspective. A cat uses its sharp and long claws to hold the mouse down as it squirms. A bully uses their very hateful words to take down the person they are trying to intimidate. As the cat or the bully hold down the mouse or victim, the mouse and the victim begin to become very vulnerable. The two begin to give out or become weak because they have had all that they can take for the time being. At this point, the cat will more than likely devore the mouse, but there is a chance that the cat will let the mouse go so it has a game to play later on. The bully will more than likely do the same. The bully is much like the cat. A bully will do everything in their power to make someone feel as small as they possibly can until they reach their breaking point. Then they do as the cat and devore the mouse. The bully cannot literally eat their victim but instead, the victim will do the job for them. Many people become depressed and choose to commit suicide rather to deal with the hatred one is receiving from a bully. Suicide because of bullying is committed by people of all ages, but is more common in today’s young adults. Teeenagers are victims of cyber bullying more than any other type of bullying. Electronics are advancing more and more as time goes on and people are being able to connect with each other at the touch of a button. A picture could be taken to make fun of someone and it could be shared with another person in less than thirty seconds. “...kids who are cyberbullied often have a hard time getting away from the behavior.” (Aspa, 2016). Cyber bullying will cause teenagers or children to skip school, use alcohol and drugs, experience in-person bullying, have lower self-esteem, receive poor grades, and have more health problems. (Aspa, 2016). Fake social media profiles can be created as well as fake phone numbers pretending to be another person.
