Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, have more in common than one would think. For example, they share the same philosophy of Karma, they share the freedom to choose God(s) or have no God(s), allow atheist to partake in their religion, and have no judgment day, along with many other features. Yet, they also have many features that aren’t the same such as their founders, the goal of their religion or even the say if or when women are allowed to participate in their religion. Let’s start from the beginning, with the origins of the three religions. Buddhism and Hinduism were both founded in the Indian Subcontinent v. Jainism who was founded in India. The teachings of Jainism come from Mahavira, and its goals are the freedom of the soul along with its nonviolence. In some religions, men and women don’t always get the same rights but in Buddhism, there are no differences between a man and a woman. They are both given them the same equal rights. In Hinduism however, it states that a woman can either be a nun or a priestess, and in Jainism women are only allowed to become nuns. Just like Christians and Catholics practice going to church every Sunday, Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism each have their different practices. Buddhism practices mediation and the practice of the eightfold path. Hinduism practices meditation, yoga, along with offerings in their temple, and Jainism practices the five vows of truth. Death is the same is all these three religions. When one dies in Buddhism they are usually reborn unless they have achieved the highest state- nirvana. Jainism continues to also be reborn because of Karma until liberation is achieved, and in Hinduism reincarnation is also the case until enlightment is
