Bruno Mars is a Grammy-winning singer and song-writer. He was born on October 8th, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He wrote the well-known song “Wavin’ Flag” for artist Knaan, that became the song for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. In 2010 he made his major career breakthrough when his first single “Nothin’ on you” was released. He released the Grammy-winning hit “Uptown Funk!” in 2015. Bruno Mars began his career in the early 2000s, the era of legendary artists such as Usher, Eminem, Beyonce, Britany Spears and Jay-Z. His rise to fame occured during the decade of revolutionary advances in technology. His father, Pete, was a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn. His mother Bernadette was a also a singer, both giving him inspiration and encouragement. Bruno Mars’ real name is Peter Hernandez, but was given the nickname Bruno by his family as a baby due to his strong-willed nature resembling a brute. Mars’ family preformed on Waikiki Beach doing celebrity impersonations and Motown hits. He learned musical instruments such as drums, piano and guitar at an early age. At age 4, he joined the family musical act as an Elvis impersonator and by his adolescence he was performing impersonating Michael Jackson. He moved to Los Angeles after high school and began writing songs to move his career forward. His career breakthrough began when he was introduced to Phillip Lawrence who helped compose a song that he ended up selling to another artist.
