Brooklyn is romantic drama directed by John Crowley, starring, among others, Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters Eilis Lacey, a young Irish woman immigrates to New York in hope of a better life in the 1950s. First, she works at a department store. The first couple of weeks she feels like a fish out of water and she misses her mother and sister. With the passing of time she manages to overcome the homesickness with the help of handsome Italian boy who open up the possibility of a bright future. The soundtrack of the movie is immersive, my personal favourite was the Irish folk music in one of the scenes, but the dance music was also pleasant to listen to. In addition, The dressmakers and stylist did a great job. The costumes mirror the changes in Eilis’s personality. The atmosphere and imagery of the movie made me feel like I was in living in that era. All three actresses who played the Lacey women resonated well with each other as if they were relatives in real life. Although the male actors played very different personalities, they managed the be equally loveable, which made it hard predict the outcome of the story.
