Modern society has made a sub-culture that lives in a reality that is not real. It is so far from the truth that the inhabitants of this sub-culture so often cannot live in both realities and have become a spectacle for others to marvel at. This sub-culture is made up of entertainers, millionaires, and athletes. The people in this group can range from newborns to death and some live on well after. The specimens that I find an interest in are the young ones that enter into this society not knowing well that their lives will never be the same. Britney Spears was just another victim of the society that brings into their prison.
Britney Spears was born on December 2, 1981. She lived in Kentwood, Louisiana and was constantly performing in front of people and always wanted to be on 'Star Search'. Britney tried out for the New Mickey Mouse Club at age 8 and then again at 11 and made it. Then she went solo because her talent was evident and she wanted more (A & E Television Networks, 2011).
Britney was very successful from 1998 to 2000. During these years, things were changing for her. Britney was telling people about her “remaining a virgin until marriage” yet she was posing in pictures that convinced people to think otherwise. Her albums still continued to sell in the United States as well as in Europe. She embarked on many successful roads through 2003 (Wikipedia, 2011). Her public finally saw her as a woman not a girl.
In 2002, Britney and her boyfriend Justin Timberlake broke up. ...ality disorder is not extreme as it could be from the information that could be found. Because of this, there may be hope that she could live without medication and only therapy. This would be determined as she progresses. Having a stable support system may enable Britney to go back into the singing again but I would recommend that she only does this for small blocks of time.
So many young people go into the entertainment business. Most of them do not know that without a support system to keep them grounded and stable their mental development can be compromised. The society that we place so high in our culture and deem worthy of such high praise, eat our children alive. They grow too fast, have to defend themselves constantly, and are watched around the clock. As a society, we must take a look at what we are doing to the people in the entertainment industry.

If you don't like what you hear, don't want your children exposed to it, or are offended by it, just turn it off. Thousands of people have attended concerts by the most hated artists in America. Millions watch Marilyn Manson prance about in music videos. Yet, the general majority of the population is not inspired to murder innocent people. Teens that are depressed, troubled, or rejected and taunted by their peers need to get help before they let their warped sense of fantasy and reality mix too far. Don't deprive more mature listeners all because it's something that frightens you. Music may be a huge influence, but it cannot be blamed for all of society's problems.

A film that Hollywood recently release called ‘project X’ has teens across the America seeking ‘the party of a lifetime.’ In the movie, a group of ‘loser’ teens decide to throw said party to become popular. The party includes alcohol, drugs, and clueless hormonal teens… but instead of the happy ending the main character receives in the movie, these copycat parties spiral downhill as teens get arrested, shot by mistakenly invited gang members, and are utterly corrupted. “I believe what we’re seeing is the impact that film and it’s perceived reality can have. In this case, unfortunately, what was done in a controlled environment by professionals is being mimicked by naïve kids. And the outcome can be dangerous” (Allam, Mohammad, Junior in Film and Media Arts). Hollywood says that in order to be recognized as a person one must be good looking or wealthy. This is probably why kids these days try to alter themselves to please others. Hollywood can make the American dream seem like a persuasive American reality – even if it’s not the reality most of us experience. Hollywood exaggerates the extravagance of itself to attract those who want the ‘good-life’ that they think American people all experience (Mondello, Bob).

Over my time spent learning about Lohan, I have learned quite a bit about her actions and her behaviors that lead her to her choices. According to TMZ’s (2011) biography on Lindsay, she started acting when she was ten years of age. This throws her into a very stressful and fast paced lifestyle at a very young age, which leaves her extremely susceptible to find ways to help control her stress. The massive amounts of attention from her fans, puts a tremendous burden on her.

Napoleon Hill once said, “Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.” This quote should be frequently used in society’s everyday lives. Celebrities influence people’s lives on a day-to-day basis and they do not even realize it. People use reality T.V. and commercials to figure out what they are supposed to wear or how they are supposed to live, but what they do not realize, is that the majority of media is fake. As a whole, we need to figure out how to tell if what the media is portraying is realistic. Adults and children cannot be comparing their lives to millionaires.
