Good afternoon, today we’re gathered in the town hall to discuss whether or not is the colonies declaring to break away from Britain in a rebellion necessary. Currently in the colonies, there are split between two group between patriot who favor the British rebellion and the loyalist who remain loyal to Britain. However It should be very clear that we the patriot should be justified in rebelling against Britain for whatever we deem unfair. Our reason for this rebellion are from all the faults made by our Britain King,George the third. This includes all the acts of taxation, wrongful navigation act, and salutary neglect. All until, when the British started to ruin thing in placing mercantilism and later to Navigation Act. The purpose of the act was to benefit Britain wealth and to increase their trading materials. Main causes can be from Dutch during that time were dominating the trading may threatened the trade of English shipping or could be a simple feeling of greed (O.I). However, this act only impact the colonies again negatively in our relationship. Including the fact that this act is technically violating our rights that every human should have. This is more represent towards Britain King George III. For each previous reason and problem that we have as patriots.Each colonists try having representative govt or to plead for a new law. We try to cooperate to resolve the tension in taxes but instead we were neglected, avoided altogether. Hence, the reason why some patriots were impacted by the salutary neglected and to began in smuggling goods and stamp. In order to bypass the unfair acts. The reason for salutary neglect is inexcusable for what our Britain King want. This show that our rebellion took time to reach a decision as we have to resist all the unfair laws and neglect first. The colonists were in every right, aspect and mind, not only justified but also it was about time that they stood of and actually take action against the British. The choice of going to war with them, was the only choice that they had. All diplimatical options that they had ceased to stand a chance against the tyrant Britain. From the very beginning when the colonists felt upset against their mother country and the way that they went about the law making, up until the beginning of the war, they tried all diplimatical options that they had, by sending letters, you name it. When they didn’t work then they had no other means but to declare war.
The British colonies in the 17th century were afflicted by many strenuous periods of tension that boiled over resulting in violent rebellions. Bacon’s Rebellion and the Stono rebellion are two such rebellions that rocked the colonies. These conflicts rose from tension between the governance of the colonies and those who they ruled over. The Stono Rebellion and Bacon’s Rebellion were both examples of the American people’s willful determination, unifying capability, and ability to fight back.
I know it is hard to believe we (the colonists) would be on the verge of a revolution against our own homeland. My father has explained to me the reasons we deserve independence from God, the King, and the British people. There are many things going on in the colonies to lead us to our current thoughts. The British people have imposed many Acts upon us colonists.
The British rule that was established in the colonies was oppressive and unfair. The British rule was immoral because Parliament contained a totality of British politicians who only cared about Britain’s wants and needs. The Colonists, “wanted the right to vote about their own taxes, like the people living in Britain. But no colonists were permitted to serve in the British Parliament.” (Ember) This unfairness led to many unwanted laws such as the Intolerable Acts and the Stamp Act. July 4th of 1776 is arguably the most significant day in American history. On this day, the thirteen British colonies won their independence from Great Britain, their mother country at the time. The war that allowed the colonies to gain their independence was, of course, the American Revolution. One reason the colonists’ declaration of independence was understandable was because after an extended period of salutary neglect, the British started imposing laws on the colonies. Another reason was that the British violated colonists’ rights by implementing the Proclamation of 1763. A third and final reason the colonies were correct in breaking away from Great Britain was that although the colonists were not represented in British Parliament, Great Britain still taxed them. The thirteen British colonies were absolutely justified in seceding from Great Britain because the British started to enforce laws after a long period of salutary neglect, they violated the colonists’ rights by passing the Proclamation of 1763, and the colonies were required to pay taxes even though they were not represented in Parliament.
Patrick Henry’s statements resonates with the colonists because it adequately captures their grievances and feelings against the British, who have made their lives exceedingly difficult. Unlike many Demagogues who use their words to gain personal power or control, Patrick Henry uses his words to rally the colonists towards a good common cause that ultimately leads to the creation of the strongest nation in the world. “Give me liberty or give me death!” This statement from Patrick Henry’s “Speech to the Virginia Convention,” delivered to the House of Burgesses, has been quoted by many, becoming almost cliché. However, the declaration is truly understood by a select few. The unjust Stamp Act passed by the British crown in 1765, brought fame and notoriety to Henry as he spoke out against the unjust taxation without representation. Ten years later on the eve of revolution, Henry calls upon the Colonial government of which he is part, to act for the betterment of the people. Patrick Henry attempts to persuade the House of Burgesses to revolt and declare war against Britain by logically convincing them that it is their natural right to be free and calling on their patriotism and pride as leaders of colonial America.
In accordance with (Document 6), the colonists had believed that the ruling of Great Britain over their colonies had lead to mistreatment, unfair judgment, and down-right misunderstanding of who owns the colonies. The colonists were treated as though they were second-hand citizens working and paying the taxes that were imposed on them by Great Britain. They misjudge the colonists and treat them like this without being able to comprehend the calamities and hardships which the colonists had to struggle through. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant is unfit to be the ruler of a free people¨ which helps to show that the colonists believe that they must stand up against Great Britain and to protest against the taxes they have imposed and the actions that lead to the colonists being treated as though they are second-hand

When Great Britain controlled the colonies in America they treated the colonists that lived there horribly. They would violate the colonists' rights and not give them any representation in their government. The colonists made the right decision when they choose to rebel against the British. Although, some people say the colonists deserved the treatment they received from the British, the colonists had a legitimate reason for rebelling against the British because the colonists had no representation in Parliament and the British harshly treated the colonists.
What makes something revolutionary? Revolution is a sudden change, in the political sense, change in system of governance. The 1800 election was a revolutionary election. The election brought about new views and ideas. It also brought light to problems in the constitution that needed to be fixed. George Washington was the first president and since he need order in the governmental branches he “therefore packed the new offices with federalists, as the supporters of the Constitution were called” (American Spirit pg. 205). When Washington became president he did not have a how to guide. He had to lead by example because he was the first president in the new nation. However many problems arise in his presidency. Hamilton proposed an excise tax which Americans rejected.
Dear fellow colonists, it is to my greatest concern that I am informing you of Great Britain’s advancements. Our mother country has, in accordance to the words of Thomas Paine, increased our taxes along with pushing us towards our own enslavement. With a mindset of wanting what is best for ourselves, I believe we should side with Paine and branch off from Britain.
The British deserve the taxes we pay for their protection in the French and Indian War, and the rejection of the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts, and the Tea Act is unjustified. Also, the Boston Tea Party was a poor and illegal way to protest, and should not be viewed as a positive event in the patriot’s fight for freedom. Finally, the information that is causing a patriot uprising in the Colonies is highly biased, and not based completely off of truth. While the patriots may believe that independence is the Colonies’ best option, based on the reasons given, loyalty will ensure economic success with Britain at the helm, grant us protection from the largest army in the world, and keep peace, to avoid fighting a completely one sided war. " In conclusion the rebellions of 1837/38 were defeated due to a lack of public support but it opened the eyes of the British to a problem in the colonies. The British began to realize that the system within the colonies was not working and something needed to be done. If these rebellions had not happened, the British would never have taken notice of the problems and who knows, we could still be living under the same system.
