How do two people have the gallantry to deliberately fight against their civilization? Hiram Hillburn and Eugenia Phelan, commonly referred to as Skeeter, did what no other white person dared to do. Mississippi Trial 1955 by Christopher E. Crowe and The Help had quite a lot in common with the topic of racism. Although, Hiram Hillburn and Skeeter can relate in similar ways they also have many differences. This essay will consist of detail about two characters, Hiram and Skeeter, compare and contrast of those characters, and the purpose of their stories. Most women in Mississippi never cared to be something over than married and being a mother, however, Skeeter was very diverse. Unlike many women, Skeeter has goals of becoming a writer, she planned to accomplish. Nevertheless, an opportunity arose for Skeeter to become a writer but with possible consequences for her and the maids involved. The brilliant idea of writing a book based on all the stories of black maids and their conflicts was Skeeter’s opportunity and gave black women their voice in the world. While Skeeter gets an earful of the maids’ stories she begins to apprehend how little she knew of the truth about the life of black women. In other words, Skeeter learns of the threats, abuse, and humiliation they go through everyday. In addition to this, Skeeter begins to disagree with the rumors about black people and their mistreatment. Consequently, Skeeter becomes an outcast in her social group of friends and embrace the black community, however not too openly for if she is caught she will be put in great danger. As a matter of a fact, Skeeter has her own story to tell in the book for she was raised by a black woman, Constantine. Throughout Skeeter’s childhood and into adulthood Constantine raised and cared for her, not to mention she was also Skeeter’s role model because she was always there for Skeeter and gave unforgettable advice. …show more content…

The story, Mississippi Trial 1955 brings insight to the reader about the prejudice between white and black people. White people were treating black people as ferocious as they possibly cared for. In addition, Hiram Hillburn is the representation of a young well educated teenager who had his own mind of thoughts on rights and not only the ones society placed on him. Later in the story, Hiram shows people that no matter the consequences if the right thing is done there will be no further regrets. The bravery Hiram showed is the perfect example many people should have done instead of following along with what society
