“Boo was about 6 and half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were blood stained-if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off”(Lee, 13). The kids of Maycomb stereotyped people and made them out to be someone they’re not.
In the story “To Kill A Mockingbird” the characters are all unique. They all have their own personalities. The kids of Maycomb during the summer they act out different people’s lives. One person in particular is Arthur Radley (Boo). They make up what they think his life is like. “It was a melancholy little drama, woven from bits and scraps of gossip and neighborhood legend..” (Lee, 39). “He ain’t company Cal he’s just a Cunningham-” (Lee,24) The Cunningham’s were a poor family and they didn’t have much. The kids would judge them and talk as if they were higher. This made Calpurnia upset and she fired back at them hard. No one especially a kid should make fun of another for not having money or as much as they do, it’s not right and it should never be tolerated.
Racism is still happening but not as bad as it did back then. It happened all over in this novel. This book was set in a time where stereotypes and prejudice was a big thing, characters in the book struggled to overcome these things. “Lulu stopped, but she said, “You ain’t got no business bringin’ white chillun here- they got their church, we got our’n. It is our church, ain’t it, Miss. Cal?” (Lee, 119). This is the first time the children have ever experienced racism first hand and it was towards them which probably put them in a weird position.
Stereotypes still happen in today’s time but thankfully not nearly as bad is back then. This novel showed so many ways of it, and sadly people still get treated like that and are judged for how they act, their race, what they believe in ect.. It will never be tolerated and people do react and stick up when they see it
