Hunter Prout P.E. Ms. Mersman P.1 Bocce Ball Bocce ball is an ancient sport that was played as early as 5200 B.C by Egyptians. According to http://worldbocce.org/bocce-history.htm there were paintings in Egypt that had two children playing Bocce ball. Bocce ball was eventually picked up by the Greek people and spread to Italy. Bocce ball is now a tournament sport and may be an olympic sport soon. Bocce ball was played in Greece by both rich and poor people and was a way for Greek people to become one in the sport. Bocce ball is played with balls, people to cast the balls, and a pallino. A pallino is a smaller ball that is used as a target ball for the casters. The balls that are used to be thrown towards the pallino are relatively larger and more heavy than the pallino. You can play Bocce ball in many places, however there are some surfaces that do not support the game very well. You can play Bocce ball at any flat grassy surface such as at a park or even your backyard. Bocce ball can also be played in the sand or at an actual Bocce ball court. One technique is to throw the ball over hand, the ball will will travel the furthest distance while doing this. Another way is to lob the ball in a more arched path, this throw can be very efficient because, if the player has good accuracy the ball will land with very little movement after the initial landing.
