Situated on the Monongahela River is the neighborhood of Southside Flats. Within it lays the entertainment hub of Pittsburgh. Numerous bars and nightspots line the main thoroughfare of E Carson St. The early history of the neighborhood saw it as a main point for industry with its proximity to the river and railway stations. At the end of the nineteenth century, the neighborhood would boast a major steelworks factory that employed a sizable portion of the residents of Southside Flats. Many of these residents emigrated from the countries of Eastern Europe and incorporated many of their traditions into the area and the neighboring Southside Slopes. This style of life would last until the early 1980s when the South Side Local Development Company was formed and the steel plant shut down. The area was absent of a major employer until the City of Pittsburgh Urban and Redevelopment Authority (URA) bought the land once occupied by the steel plant in 1993. The URA bought the land with money they borrowed from a developer that eventually led to the construction of the SouthSide Works. The complex officially opened in 2004 brought many national retailers to the Pittsburgh area. The construction of the SouthSide Works is one example of how cities have had to cope with the deindustrialization that has taken place in this country over the past 30 years. The emergence of Southside Flats as the hotspot of Pittsburgh for nightlife and shopping has caused problems for the local residents. Over the past years, there has been an increasing riff between the local residents and the patrons of the area’s bars and nightclubs. This riff grew to such an extent that the Pittsburgh police began instituting tight reg...
In the early 1900s it was a challenge to come up with a scheme to build on oceanfront property and attract people to come there. Now, generations later, the little town of Seaside Heights has received so much attention that it’s a wonder they haven’t transplanted The Brooklyn Bridge to Toms River just so tourists would be more comfortable crossing into the land of sea, sun and sin. The lure of Seaside Heights has attracted every legion of people from all over the tri-state area to this family oriented town for years.
Hiram Revels was born on September 27, 1827 in Fayetteville, NC. Unlike the majority of African Americans in the south, Hiram was born to free parents. His father worked as a Baptist preacher and his mother was of Scottish descent. Because of his Scottage background he was believed to be mixed with African and Croatan Indian lineage. In a time when teaching African Americans was illegal, Revels had an opportunity to attend a school taught by a black women. His older brother Elias Revels owned a barbershop, which he inherited upon his sibling’s death. Two years later he left to continue his education and to obtain a job.

In the Latin language, the word excelsior, translates to “ever upward.” This word is everywhere; from the New York State slogan to the movie Silver Linings Playbook. This word is also on the bedroom wall and dorm room of eighteen year old Jack Henderson. To him, excelsior means to always think positive and that there is always something greater happening.
I am from a small town and was looking to be part of a community. The town of wayne is very welcoming to students without being too overwhelmingly huge. I loved the small town feel of campus and all the student are very friendly. The class sizes are small and the teachers actually care about getting to know us students. Unlike huge universities I felt like I could get involved with things on campus and really enjoy my time as a student.
Who is Ethan Morrow? Google my name and you will find very little other than a few people that happen to share my name and strive athletically or have a long forgotten LinkedIn account. The Ethan Morrow that is writing to you today is a Sixteen year old that is a Senior in high school. Try searching my name with my high school and you will come to the realization that I play golf. My Max Preps account will display a rather mediocre golfing career and statistics revolving around it. This is me but it doesn't show my interest. The real Ethan lives at a home with his Mom and Dad. I go to North Davidson High School where I take the most difficult and rigorous courses available, these courses shape me along with my interest. If you ask about my interest, I will probably go on a rant about the environment.
Pittsburgh has come a long way from its roots and is still continuing to change for the better. The same can be said for Pittsburgh’s musical artists and culture. As the times change and people desire something different, Pittsburgh will always provide for what people want and need no matter what culture, ethnicity, or style.
...ious environment. It is typical in Chicago for neighborhoods to be referred to by there Church or the cultural environment of the primary language. This is very well linked to the hierarchy of the cities as such in Mesopotamia, and the delegated jobs and status of its people. This is evident in the neighborhood surrounding the museum, as there is diversity on the streets leading through the area. It is apparent that when you arrive to Hyde Park, the affluence is increased, possibly due to the education of the people in the area and direct access to a fabulous university. I am sure as time goes by, I will have much more information after visiting this area, as to where the societal break may have derived from, or not. I am looking forward to the experience of finding out more and why. Which I truly believe this project was all about. Expanding our where and why.
Cleveland is an extraordinary city. Cleveland contains one of the oldest neighborhoods and has some very interesting ones at that. The Tremont neighborhood is one of Cleveland’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods. “Tremont is known for its numerous and varied restaurants” (Mitchell, “Tremont Neighborhood” 1). The “St. Augustine’s Catholic Church” is located in the Tremont neighborhood and is of Victorian Architecture. The “St. Johns Cantius is favored by the polish community and is also located in Tremont neighborhood (Mitchell, “Tremont Neighborhood” 2). Tremont can be exciting. Throughout the year, a variety of events take place in Tremont, such as, monthly art walks, Taste of Tremont Festival, Tremont Art and Cultural Festival, Church of the Assumptions Greek Festival, and the St. John Polish Festival. Another great neighborhood in Cleveland is North Coast Harbor. Lake Erie is simply beautiful. Lake Erie is used for recreational activities (Mitchell, “Best Things About Living In Cleveland” 1). There are two trolleys downtown. There are two lines for the trolleys (Mitchell, “Get on Board the New RTA Downtown Trolleys” 1). Cleveland is an awesome city to live in and is very diverse.
Where I live is one of the greatest neighborhoods in the city to live in; however it does have its draw backs. Importantly it has nearly everything a resident might want, beautiful picturesque scenery, proximity to shopping, and many of the cultural centers. Nevertheless the roads can be some of the most congested in town, and the streets are not safe to walk late at night.
